The recently unveiled details for “Mario Kart World” during the Switch 2 Direct have sparked curiosity, particularly about the confirmed characters. Previously, “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” significantly increased its longevity by introducing new tracks and drivers through DLC packages, which introduced fresh faces to the existing cast. Notably, “MK8 Deluxe” also incorporated guest characters from other Nintendo franchises like “The Legend of Zelda” and “Animal Crossing”. In contrast, it appears that “Mario Kart World” will be concentrating on giving more prominence to lesser-known characters this time.

As a devoted Mario fan, I can’t help but marvel at this impressive lineup of characters – a sort of A-list of NPCs and secondary adversaries drawn from every corner of the Mario universe! The likes of Goomba and Piranha Plant are standout choices, with the latter really shining in Super Smash Ultimate. However, there are also some lesser-known picks that hail from as far back as Super Mario World’s Swoop, all the way up to the latest addition, Conkdor from Super Mario 3D World.
The Sidestepper, dating back even before “Super Mario World,” originates from the initial release of “Mario Bros.” These crab-like characters have had minimal appearances since then. It’s wonderful to witness this vintage adversary stepping into the limelight once more and being reintroduced to a fresh wave of fans.
