After conquering the treacherous seas of Shipshape Island and overcoming two formidable foes, it’s time to set sail towards the final boss battle! As someone who’s been through my fair share of video game adventures, I can confidently say that this fight against Glohm Sharpcask is one for the books.

In this tale, the malevolent Zokket aims to dominate the globe, using his enveloping entity Glohm. However, only the valiant brothers can thwart him. Consequently, as any courageous role-playing game protagonist would, you’ll start by challenging a series of optional adversaries!

As a gamer, I’m diving back into Brothership for round two with one of the three optional rematches against bosses I’ve faced before. Knocking out this mechanical menace again will net me some fresh loot to add to my arsenal.

Indeed, knowing that Concordia has some level of protection against those empowered by Glohm seems quite crucial, doesn’t it?

Starting the Sidequest

To make Glohm Sharpcask appear, you must initiate the secondary quest for a rematch. Similar to your past encounter, find Dewey Fightem on Shipshape Island and talk to him to gather information about the fearsome creature hiding in the Grand Lighthouse of the Color-Full Sea.

Based on your advancement in the primary plot, Dewey may immediately dispatch you to fight against Glohm Sharpcask! To access this sidequest, make sure you’ve first finished the main story mission at Wayaway Island (and naturally, defeated Glohm Gobblick).

There’s no rush if you completed Wayaway Island a while back – Dewey’s rematch sidequests aren’t timed. But, completing Glohm Sharpcask earlier will grant you access to the sidequest reward faster: a late-game hammer upgrade.

Reaching Glohm Sharpcask

The rematch with Glohm Sharpcask is set to occur in the very same underground setting as your initial battle: deep within the basement of the Grand Lighthouse situated in the Vibrant Ocean.

As I set sail once more, I’m open to tackling any side quests that catch my eye during the voyage. Despite using the ‘X’ button for a speedier journey, it still takes some time to navigate from the Gulchrock Sea all the way back to the Color-Full Sea, which can feel like an eternity in gaming terms!

After reaching the island of the Great Lighthouse, grab the Green Teleporter pipe close to the island’s merchant to quickly move to Sub-Level 2 below. From there, simply proceed in a northerly direction towards the Save Block and the entrance to the boss chamber.

Preparing For The Fight

Friendly advice suggests reaching at least level 39 prior to confronting Glohm Sharpcask, as there is a valid justification for this recommendation. The strength of Glohm significantly increases the speed and force of Sharpcask’s attacks compared to your previous encounter with him.

As a gamer, when Dewey presents me with a side quest during our next encounter, I always remember to save my game first by hitting the Save Block, right before stepping into the boss room. This way, if things don’t go as planned, I can pick up where I left off without having to restart the entire battle.

In the typical fashion, make sure you have an adequate supply of healing supplies, particularly syrups and nuts, before initiating the boss battle against Glohm Sharpcask. It’s usually wise to adopt a defensive strategy and gradually chip away at his health.

Battle Plugs

Unlike my previous skirmish against Glohm Gobblick, where I had to make do with whatever gear I had, this time around, I’m assured of having not one, but two top-notch Battle Plugs at my disposal for this bout!

The Auto Ampberry obtained on Wayaway Island serves as an excellent defensive accessory for warding off the Glohm condition, which inhibits both Brother’s Attacks and Luigi Logic. As swift removal of the Glohm is crucial due to its disabling effects, it’s advisable to deal with this situation promptly.

Activating the Battle Plug doesn’t consume your turn, which makes it both convenient and time-efficient.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation for more of the main story unfolding. If it continues, there’s a chance we might get our hands on the powerful Glohm Guard plug! This device, when activated, offers complete protection from Glohm. It comes with 5 charges, and after each use, it needs about 20 turns to recharge and be ready for action again.

For attacking enemies like Glohm Gobblick and Glohm Sharpcask, you receive special plugs: the Anti-Glohm Specialist and the Anti-Spike Specialist. The first one transforms your standard attacks into critical hits when facing off against Glohm Gobblick. The second plug is particularly effective against Glohm Sharpcask because it’s equipped with numerous sharp, pointed features.

Battling Glohm Sharpcask

In your upcoming battle against Glohm Sharpcask, the strategy will be similar to your initial fight with him: relentlessly attack until he withdraws to recover, followed by employing Luigi Logic to incapacitate him and inflict heavy damage.

That’s not to say there are no differences! With the power of Glohm, this boss can put up a nasty spiked shield that prevents all damage from a single attack. You’ll need to strike the shield several times in order to keep damaging the boss.

Brothers’ attacks similar to Mario’s “Bomb Derby” are incredibly effective at destroying Glohm Sharpcask’s protective shield. These brothers’ assaults repeatedly strike their target, persisting even after impact. This gives players an opportunity to break through the shield and simultaneously diminish the boss’s health points.

From my perspective, I find that the Green Shell, which requires only 5 Battle Points (BP) to use and is simple to deploy, is an excellent choice for penetrating Glohm Sharpcask’s shield. Its six hits ensure it will consistently shatter his shield, leaving you with more BP for enhanced attacks following Luigi Logic activation.

Luigi Logic

After a while of attacking Glohm Sharpcask, he tends to withdraw, seeking safety. During this period, he regenerates approximately 200 HP each turn, and his defense also increases.

Luckily, this situation gives you the opportunity to engage Luigi Logic, as long as both brothers are still alive and neither one has been Glohmed. When it’s Luigi’s turn, simply tap the green block to initiate the mini-game.

Apart from crates, there’s an additional element in play during this mini-game: Bombs that drop from the ceiling. Should these bombs collide with the towers of crates on Glohm Sharpcask, the entire structure topples, ending the mini-game.

Stack six crates on Glohm Sharpcask, and his armor will shatter, opening up an ideal moment to strike him forcefully with your strongest allies for maximum damage. It couldn’t be a better time to utilize the Bros. Boost, especially if you require some extra assistance with the Auto EXCELLENT ability to deal heavy blows to the boss’s health.

Regardless of whether a bomb explodes your stack or crates topple over, completing the Luigi Logic minigame unsuccessfully doesn’t halt Glohm Sharpcask’s regeneration. This is why it’s always beneficial to engage with the Luigi Logic minigame, even if you find it challenging.

As a gamer, I’d say it’s likely you might have to go through the stun sequence twice, but that could change based on your character’s level and equipment. If Glohm Sharpcask’s health gets critically low and he manages to survive, the boss will become enraged, turning red, and dishing out extra damage until you manage to take him down.

Following his disassembly into individual components, Glohm Sharpcask rewards you with a Platinum Medallion (valued at 5,000 Coins!) as a thoughtful extra. Don’t forget to revisit Shipshape Island to pick up your fresh hammer from Dewey! With two bonus bosses defeated, there’s only one left…
