Mario+Rabbids Creative Director Davide Soliani Exits Ubisoft

As a long-time fan of Mario and Rabbids games, I was taken aback by the news of Davide Soliani‘s departure from Ubisoft after 25 years of dedicated service. Soliani’s tender farewell message on social media left me feeling a mix of emotions – sadness for the loss of such an influential figure in the gaming industry and excitement for what lies ahead for him.

Today on X’s latest update, long-time Ubisoft employee Davide Soliani, who previously worked on the Mario + Rabbids series, shared that he is bidding farewell after a 25-year tenure.

Soliani expressed gratitude towards the “remarkable community of gamers,” and shared that they were departing from Ubisoft to pursue a fresh endeavor. They chose not to disclose specifics about their upcoming project at that moment.

In her role as creative director, Soliani contributed to the development of both “Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle” and “Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.”

I’ve spent an amazing eleven years of my gaming career working on the beloved Mario+Rabbids series. And let me tell you, that tender moment at the 2017 E3 event when we unveiled our latest creation? That was all me! (Or rather, all us as a team, but I’d like to think I had a hand in making it special.)

Greetings everyone,

I was thrilled when Ubisoft responded promptly to Soliani’s departure announcement via X, expressing their best wishes for the new worlds he would be exploring next. Soliani was a valued member of Ubisoft Milan in Italy, but even as fans were expressing disappointment at his exit, there was an overwhelming sense of excitement and support for the innovative projects that Ubisoft has in store for us.

Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle first launched in 2017, while Sparks of Hope released in 2022.

Recently, Nintendo gave Nintendo Switch Online members a short opportunity to test out Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for free. Even after several years, this game continues to receive high marks with a Metacritic user score of 7.5.

Enthusiasts of Mario can continue to anticipate the release of Super Mario Party Jamboree, with pre-orders currently open. In their recent Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo unveiled an upcoming game titled Mario & Luigi Brothership, set to drop on November 7, 2024.
