As a movie reviewer, I’d put it this way: Stepping into the cinematic realm, I found myself engrossed in a tale where I, as Mark, unknowingly embark on a journey that drastically alters my reality. Two time-travelers crashing my date with Eve sets off a chain of events, leading me to shoulder a burden unlike any other: the responsibility to end my own life. But fate has more in store for me, as I’m unwillingly catapulted into the future. There, I’m tasked with eliminating a ruthless tyrant who has brought death and oppression to Earth. Ironically, this malevolent ruler is none other than King Immortal, an old ally. The stakes are high, and the clock is ticking as I navigate through this intricate web of time travel, self-sacrifice, and long-lost friendships in this gripping, thought-provoking film.
For countless centuries, The Immortal has been managing Earth, and it’s evident that the authority and burden have led him to insanity. The Immortal implores Mark to end his life, but Mark refuses, believing that heroes do not take lives. However, in the end, he’s compelled to act in order to safeguard a possible future timeline. This act of killing leaves an indelible mark on Invincible, as it represents his initial consensual kill, teaching him that at times, he must roll up his sleeves and do whatever is necessary to protect the world.
6. Angstrom Levy
Mark’s First Kill Showed Him He Must Do Whatever it Takes to Save His Family

For a long time, Mark was under the impression that he, not Invincible, had killed Angstrom Levy. This misconception stemmed from an unexpected incident where Mark, in his belief of Angstrom’s superior strength, ended up beating him to death during their time stranded on a desolate planet while dimension hopping. In truth, however, Angstrom was not actually killed by Mark.
Mark harbors deep remorse over taking Angstrom Levy’s life, a feeling that haunts him every day. However, it was a choice he felt compelled to make in order to protect his mother and brother. But when Mark discovers that Angstrom is still alive, and that the ongoing Invincible War is directly linked to his survival, Mark begins to question whether he should have eliminated Angstrom permanently. This decision, or lack thereof, ultimately led to the deaths of countless individuals due to Angstrom’s subsequent actions worldwide.
5. Conquest
The Oldest Viltrumite Has the Time of His Life Fighting Invincible

Victory over Conquest represents a significant milestone for Invincible, marking the first time Mark successfully defeated a Viltrumite in combat. While Atom Eve’s assistance was crucial and the adrenaline from Eve’s perceived demise and the ensuing battle undoubtedly boosted his strength (since Viltrumites lack adrenaline due to their unique human DNA), the primary significance of this fight lies in Mark’s willingness and desire to end Conquest’s life.
In my perspective, Mark’s decisive action against Conquest had an extraordinary impact – it protected countless lives, and it was profoundly moving to witness the survival of his loved ones, specifically his girlfriend and brother. This life-saving event served as a powerful reminder to Mark that he must act without hesitation when it comes to safeguarding his family or the world. If any individual poses a threat to either, Mark is resolute in his stance – they will be confronted and eliminated without exception.
4. Rus Livingston
An Innocent Astronaut, Trapped as the Sequid Hivemind

On Mars, the alien race known as the Sequids were submissive beings, and when humans arrived on their planet, the Sequids discovered a means of escape, utilizing these beneficial human hosts who could be manipulated as a tool for the collective Sequid consciousness. This allowed them to create an army of Sequids, armed with their abilities and innumerable in number, preparing for invasion and conquest.
In the scenario where Rus Livingston attempts an invasion of Earth with the Sequids, Robot proposes a strategy to liberate humans from alien dominion, aiming to both protect Rus and address the Sequid issue. However, following the confrontation with Conquest, Mark decides not to gamble on Rus’s safety, leading to his immediate execution. This act underscores Mark’s commitment to upholding his promises, yet it also reveals a darker aspect of him – hinting that the seemingly virtuous nature of Invincible might be starting to unravel, as Rus was an innocent party, and there were likely alternative means to save him.
3. Dinosaurus
Mark’s Work with a Villain Ends in Unforgivable Disaster

Dinosaurs symbolized a powerful and cunning antagonist to mankind, perpetrating acts of terrorism and heinous deeds under the pretense of global salvation. Dinosaur held the conviction that his criminal activities could prevent calamities such as pollution and save humanity. Thus, he orchestrated attacks on New Vegas and had plans to destroy other cities, believing they would ultimately benefit the planet and in turn, mankind. This rationale led Mark to liberate Dinosaur and collaborate with him beyond the reach of GDA’s jurisdiction.
Mark found working alongside Dinosaurus to be a prudent decision initially, but in hindsight, it was reckless and ultimately led to catastrophic consequences. Dinosaurus orchestrated bombings at the North Pole, triggering floods that devastated countless lives. With no other choice, Mark took matters into his own hands and eliminated Dinosaurus. However, the act left its mark on him – he carried the guilt of knowing he was indirectly responsible for Dinosaurus’ actions. This incident underscores how Mark’s self-reliant heroism often leads to unintended harm to innocent people.
2. Onaan
A Kill that Made Mark Realise that Being a Hero is ########

Born to the banished Grand Regent Thragg, Onaan is his honorable offspring. With half-Viltrumite and half-Thraxan lineage, Onaan’s powers flourished at a swift pace. Despite his father’s cold indifference towards him, demanding only the finest work for war, Onaan developed an insatiable taste for cruelty and relished in taking lives extensively.
In this scenario, Onaan assisted his father in locating Mark, Eve, and their child Terra. Onaan derived a perverse satisfaction from slaying them all, which explains why Mark swiftly choked him until his head detached, uttering the phrase “Heroism is a bunch of crap“. This act of violence against Onaan underscores that Mark no longer adheres to heroic principles and instead prioritizes safeguarding his family, regardless of how grimy his actions may become.
1. Thragg
The Former Grand Regent Who Brings a Viltrumite Army to Earth
- Featured in: Invincible #140
Among all the Viltrumites, Grand Regent Thragg stands out as the most formidable. He’s the one who disarmed Battle Beast, outmatched Omni-Man, Oliver, and Invincible in a 3-versus-1 fight, leaving them barely alive. His fierce loyalty to the ancient Viltrum Empire is unparalleled, leading him to rally his own troops against the new empire formed by Nolan’s half-Viltrumite, half-Thraxan soldiers. These soldiers are willing to lay down their lives for a father who may not show much love towards them.
In the battle between Nolan and Thragg, it was Nolan’s kindness that ultimately led to his demise. This left Invincible with no alternative but to hurl Thragg towards the sun and engage in an unyielding struggle against him. Mark’s confrontation with Thragg could be considered a suicidal act, as the intense heat of the sun burned both his skin and bones. Nevertheless, Mark’s triumph over Thragg established him as the most powerful Viltrumite ever and crowned him Emperor of a new era.
