Marvel Boss Implies Insomniac Will Develop More Superhero Games After Wolverine

Haluk Mentes, the head of Marvel Games, has indicated that Insomniac Games will keep making superhero games after releasing Marvel’s Wolverine. While Marvel partners with various developers for its video games, Insomniac has become a key studio in the superhero genre with successful titles like the Marvel’s Spider-Man series and the forthcoming Marvel’s Wolverine. Marvel plans to continue collaborating with Insomniac for a long time.

Insomniac Games first gained recognition for the popular Ratchet & Clank and Spyro the Dragon series. While a new Ratchet & Clank game came out in 2021, the studio has recently become known for developing Marvel games. They started with Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, followed by a spin-off featuring Miles Morales in 2020, and then a full sequel in 2023. Now, Insomniac is working on a new game starring Marvel’s Wolverine, which is currently scheduled for release in 2026 after being announced back in 2021.

Marvel Will Work With Insomniac for “Years to Come”

While NetEase has seen success with the free-to-play game Marvel Rivals, Insomniac remains the leading studio for single-player Marvel games. Marvel Games executive Haluk Mentes recently told Game Informer that Marvel plans to continue its partnership with Insomniac for the foreseeable future.

So, I was reading about how Marvel greenlights new games, and one of their execs, Mentes, basically said they feel like they owe it to us, the players, and to the next generation of game developers. They realize for a lot of people, our first experience with Marvel might actually be through one of their games. It’s cool because they don’t just want developers to make a Marvel game, they want partners who really get what Marvel’s about and feel like they become part of the Marvel universe themselves when they’re working on a project.

According to Mentes, the PlayStation 5 game Marvel’s Wolverine perfectly represents Marvel’s approach to game development. They felt it was clear that Insomniac Games was the best choice to bring Logan back to the gaming world. The general manager of Marvel Games stated that a shared vision and values are the foundation of their ongoing partnership with Insomniac, and they look forward to many more years of collaboration.

Insomniac Games hasn’t announced its plans following the release of Marvel’s Wolverine next year. However, a previous data breach suggested Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 could arrive in 2028. It’s important to note that this information came from internal documents and may no longer be current. The leaked plans also indicated a Venom game was slated for 2025, but with the year nearly over, that release date seems highly improbable.
