Marvel Rivals: 10 Best Characters For Beginners

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this list is a real treat for any Marvel fan! Each character has been thoughtfully designed to offer unique abilities and playstyles, making each one a joy to master.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but rave about Marvel Rivals – it’s simply the epitome of excellence within the hero shooter genre. With an array of beloved Marvel characters, both heroes and villains, at your fingertips, it’s nothing short of spectacular!

Instead of choosing a game featuring your preferred licensed character without much thought, you might initially lean towards improvising.

On the other hand, each character in Marvel Rivals offers different degrees of user-friendly design. While you might prefer one hero over others, their set of skills could initially prove complex to manage effectively.

If you’re considering honing your skills a bit more before fully diving into your preferred game, there are some characters with less complex mechanics and abilities that are suitable for newcomers.

10. Jeff The Land Shark

Point And Heal

The cutest little apex predator on land or sea, Jeff the Land Shark is like your childhood puppy with a lot more teeth.

Jeff stands out among the game’s support characters for his simplicity. His main ability, “Joyful Splash,” continually showers healing water, quickly rejuvenating any teammates it hits.

Jeff has the ability to prepare healing options for future use by creating a Healing Bubble. This enables him to aid allies who are out of his immediate reach with his primary means of healing.

Although Jeff may not be primarily focused on offense, he’s capable of standing his ground when needed. Surprisingly, his Aqua Burst secondary attack and his ultimate move, “It’s Jeff,” deal more damage than one would initially anticipate.

9. The Punisher

The Standard Shooter Package

Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, is a classic avenger harboring intense animosity towards criminals, who’s always ready to pull the trigger.

The Punisher character is ideal for individuals who enjoy prioritizing the “marksmanship” element within hero shooting games, focusing on precise, long-range damage.

He quickly changes weapons from an assault rifle to a shotgun, confuses opponents with Explosive Bombs, and establishes a Persistent Sentry for continuous fire.

His ultimate, Final Judgement, shreds through health bars like tissue paper and doesn’t require much strategizing beyond holding M1 and running forward.

8. Iron Man

Free-Flying Artillery

Following his miraculous survival after a life-threatening wound, Tony Stark transformed into the indestructible Iron Man – a charismatic CEO with an unyielding spirit and the recognizable figurehead of the Avengers team.

From any perspective, Iron Man’s capability for flight without restraints and his diverse array of long-range attack options, make him an exceptional offensive asset in combat situations.

His main and additional attack capabilities are split between burst damage (splash) and continuous damage (sustained), respectively. Both types of damage can momentarily receive a boost through the use of Armor Overdrive.

The most formidable, indestructible energy cannon he possesses, has the strength to instantly knock out numerous enemies should they be within its expansive range.

7. Squirrel Girl

We’re Goin’ Nuts

Doreen Green, commonly referred to as Squirrel Girl, possesses the abilities of both a squirrel and a human. Notably, she’s known for having outsmarted Thanos – a feat worth investigating in the comics.

With the special move Burst Acorn, Squirrel Girl can cleverly arrange surprise attacks from wall-level heights. Her Tail Bounce ability is useful when you require an enhanced vantage point to get a more unobstructed shot.

Her unique charm lies in her Mammal Affinity skill, granting an instant recharge of the Burst Acorn and allowing her to utilize her next ability on a cool-down-free basis.

By including her continuous damage ability, Ultimate Move – Unbeatable Squirrel Tsunami, it becomes clear that Squirrel Girl is an unstoppable natural force in the game.

6. Magneto

Offense And Defense In One Package

A mutant boasting formidable control over magnetism, Magneto champions the supremacy of mutants over humans, regardless of the price.

Magneto excels in both attack and defense, consistently dealing significant damage with his main and auxiliary attacks. Moreover, he can protect himself and his companions with his powerful abilities.

In fact, with the help of Iron Bulwark, you can transform damage taken into even greater firepower.

Should you find yourself right in the heat of the battle, Magneto’s final weapon, Meteor M, enables you to deflect incoming enemy attacks by returning them back to their source. However, be mindful to activate it prior to its self-destruct sequence.

5. Mantis

Hands-Off Healing

A young extraterrestrial named Mantis possesses strong telepathic skills, which she employs to assist the cosmic team known as the Guardians of the Galaxy by manipulating emotions.

If you prefer a role where you’re not directly in the heart of the action but still want to contribute effectively, then Mantis could be an excellent pick for you.

Her second ability, the Healing Blossom, gradually restores health to one ally. The Mantis, however, can release numerous blossoms concurrently, healing multiple allies all at once.

If nobody requires healing, utilize your Orbs for Allied Inspiration to boost damage instead. In case the entire team is in dire straits, Mantis’ ultimate ability, Soul Resurgence, generates a substantial healing area.

4. Rocket Raccoon

High Mobility, Varied Support

In a simpler and more conversational style, one could say: The small but hot-tempered member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket, is quick to brandish a powerful weapon if he perceives even the slightest provocation.

Beyond the agility granted by my compact stature and diverse movement options, I, as Rocket, offer a range of helpful supports in the game.

He has the ability to instantly mend allies using Repair Mode, and he can also deploy the B.R.B., which brings back fallen comrades and offers them additional armor protection.

As an avid fan, when aiming to advance, I always remember to deploy Rocket’s ultimate, C.Y.A., to boost the damage of my fellow teammates in close proximity.

3. Scarlet Witch

Gets Stronger As She Fights

Skilled in chaos magic, Wanda Maximoff, known as the Scarlet Witch, could pose a threat to entire universes without being part of the Avengers team.

As a gamer, there’s no contest I’d rather avoid when it comes to going head-to-head with Scarlet Witch in a DPS battle. She’s the one character who consistently outperforms me, leaving me in her dust.

Her main ability, Chaos Control, inflicts continuous damage proportional to an enemy’s current health. Accumulated Chaos Energy from this ability can be utilized for her second skill, Chthonian Burst, which unleashes a powerful burst of damage affecting multiple enemies.

When adversaries gather closely, shock them using the Dark Seal, followed by obliterating them all with the ultimate ability, Reality Erasure.

2. Star-Lord

Rapid-Action Duelist

As both human and extraterrestrial, Peter Quill goes by the moniker Star-Lord and leads the interstellar group known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Star-Lord excels for those seeking immediate action, as he effectively engages enemies up close with his Element Weapons and Rapid-Fire Attacks.

Star-Lord’s Rocket Boost and Cosmic Drift skills enhance his movement speed and evasion chances, respectively, while the latter additionally replenishes ammo for his Element Weapons.

In simpler terms, his extraordinary title as a Cosmic Legend allows him to effortlessly track targets as he soars unrestricted in the skies.

1. Venom

Highly-Agile Damage Sponge

Disillusioned ex-reporter Eddie Brock, combined with Spider-Man’s discarded alien symbiote attire, transforms into the deadly guardian known as Venom.

Venom’s main role is to navigate the stage with acrobatics and cause trouble. Surprisingly quick for his size, Venom’s Venom Swing and Frenzied Arrival abilities give him a surprising level of agility.

In simpler terms, his ability called Cellular Corrosion weakens and harms enemies he encounters, whereas Symbiotic Resilience instantly regenerates his health by providing a short-term boost to it.

When in a tight spot, Venom’s final ability, the Feast of the Abyss, allows him to become invulnerable just before attacking a group of enemies. This also boosts his health further.
