As a long-time gamer and avid fan of both Marvel comics and Overwatch-style shooters, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Marvel Rivals since its announcement earlier this year. The chance to finally dive into the closed beta test has been an absolute thrill for me!

The closed beta test for “Marvel Rivals,” the new superhero shooter game by NetEase, has seen an impressive turnout, with over 50,000 players joining in during its first day. Back in early 2023, NetEase announced their collaboration with Marvel to create a team-based shooting game that blends the intense battles of “Overwatch” with the iconic heroes and villains from Marvel Comics and movies. Currently, there are 21 confirmed characters in “Marvel Rivals,” each equipped with unique special attacks and abilities inspired by their comic book and film appearances.

Marvel Rivals’ official release date has not been announced yet, but eager gamers have had the opportunity to experience it twice in preview events. The initial event was a closed alpha in May, where attendees could earn permanent rewards such as an alternate Scarlet Witch character skin. Following this, there was a closed beta that started on July 23 and will continue until August 5. Different from the previous alpha test, which only supported PC gaming, this beta is accessible to gamers on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

To put it simply, the Marvel Rivals closed beta has been thriving on Steam so far. Based on Steam Charts data, the beta attracted a massive peak of 52,515 players on its launch day. The daily average number of active players ranged between an impressive 30,000 and 35,000.

Marvel Rivals Closed Beta Pass 50,000 Players

The significant number of players in Marvel Rivals is probably due to the alluring new content presented during the closed beta testing. This includes an engaging event named Galacta’s Quest, where participants can gain additional XP and obtain special rewards such as a cyan Venom skin reminiscent of the Symbiote’s look in Marvel vs. Capcom. Another exciting addition is the “War of the Realms” 6v6 tournament, scheduled from July 30 to August 4.

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of beta tests that don’t quite live up to the hype. But Marvel Rivals is different. Having reached level six in this exciting closed beta, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride and anticipation. Why, you ask? Well, not only have I been granted the opportunity to earn extra invite codes for my friends, but the sheer recognition of the Marvel brand alone has attracted a massive player count. It’s a win-win situation!
