Marvel Rivals Could Do Wonders With a PvE Mode

As a lifelong Marvel fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of stories and characters that make up this universe, I can’t help but feel a pang of excitement at the prospect of Marvel Rivals introducing a PvE mode. Don’t get me wrong, the current PvP battles are thrilling and engaging, but there’s just something about stepping into the shoes of Iron Man, Black Widow, or Spider-Man to save the world that takes the experience to another level.

With the debut of “Marvel Rivals“, Marvel enthusiasts now have the chance to experience life from their beloved characters’ perspective in a fresh take on the Marvel universe. Unlike games such as “Marvel’s Spider-Man“, this adaptation features heroes squaring off against one another in six-versus-six hero shooter contests, introducing a new type of Marvel game that has been drawing crowds. Although the current approach is successful, it could be beneficial for “Marvel Rivals” to explore Player vs Environment (PvE) modes as well.

Currently, it appears that NetEase Games does not intend to introduce PvE (Player vs Environment) into Marvel Rivals at this time. Instead, their main emphasis is on creating a robust PvP (Player vs Player) experience that keeps players engaged for years. However, if they aim to elevate the game to greater heights, they should definitely consider incorporating a PvE mode. This mode could significantly enhance the gameplay of Marvel Rivals, and with 85 years of Marvel storytelling to draw from, there’s an abundance of rich content waiting to be translated into video games.

Marvel Rivals Feels Tailor-Made for a PvE Mode or Event

The Marvel Universe is Filled to the Brim With Stories to Be Told

In the Marvel universe, stories revolve around heroes battling villains across various dimensions, including Earth, space, time, and even multiple universes. These tales have provided thrilling experiences that the Marvel films have effectively brought to life on screen. Fans have been captivated by the conflicts of the Avengers, the struggles faced by the X-Men, and the daring escapades of the Guardians of the Galaxy. With each new year, these adventures continue to expand.

In Marvel Rivals, players can experience life as various characters, some even making their initial video game appearance, such as Jeff the Land Shark. However, this adaptation of the universe deviates significantly from previous versions. Despite the thrill and fulfillment of gameplay, there’s a unique charm in witnessing these heroes act heroically. A PvE (Player vs Environment) mode could be the ideal way to portray such a narrative.

Marvel Rivals Has the Perfect Opportunity to Craft a Fantastic PvE Mode

Currently, the game Marvel Rivals is developing a seasonal narrative centered around the wicked Doctor Doom. The ending destination of this story is yet to be determined, but it’s likely that it will lead to a grand showdown. Since the game focuses on player-versus-player (PvP) combat, this climactic battle might only be experienced through the game’s comic strips, character dialogues, or special maps. However, if NetEase Games were to introduce a Player-versus-Environment (PvE) mode, players could potentially engage in and overcome that final encounter, creating an extraordinary experience.

Additionally, NetEase might also introduce an array of unique PvE events inspired by different historical Marvel events. Many hero shooters have already incorporated similar features, but given their extensive character and story library, the possibilities appear almost endless. Players could find themselves battling swarms of Ultron drones, defending against Chitauri invasions on certain maps, or facing off against Sentinels. Ultimately, the studio’s narrative could create an extraordinary gaming experience within Marvel Rivals.

Apart from providing some engaging side material and contributing to the narrative, introducing a compelling PvE (Player vs Environment) mode could significantly differentiate Marvel Rivals from games like Overwatch 2. Unfortunately, Overwatch 2 has faced criticism for failing to deliver on its initial promise of a rich PvE storyline. If Marvel Rivals manages to provide an engaging PvE experience instead, it might even establish itself as the leader in this genre, provided that the PvE content is well-crafted and enjoyable.
