As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of hero shooters and the importance role queue plays in ensuring balanced team compositions. While Marvel Rivals has certainly captivated me with its stellar roster of iconic superheroes, I find myself yearning for a feature that seems to be missing – role queue.
Since its recent release, Marvel Rivals has enjoyed sustained success critically and with fans.
This free-to-play hero shooting game is gaining popularity due to its impressive roster of playable characters and general fondness for Marvel themes. Yet, even with all the excitement, players are requesting a specific addition – the role queue system.
A significant issue that fans have pointed out is the suboptimal arrangement of teams sometimes. For the best results, it’s ideal to have 1-2 Vanguards, 2 Strategists, and 2-3 Duelists in a team, ensuring a balance between tank, healer, and damage dealers. Unsurprisingly, many prefer to play as the damage dealer due to its role in inflicting damage.
Will Marvel Rivals Get A Role Queue?
During an interview with Dot Esports, Marvel Rivals’ creative director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen was queried about the possibility of the eagerly awaited feature being added to the game.
Currently, the team isn’t thinking about implementing a role queuing system. Instead, they aim to provide more diverse team compositions by introducing team-up abilities and unique character designs. This way, players can enjoy playing various Marvel superheroes, not just being confined to selecting a specific role.
The team from NetEase has expressed that their heroes don’t typically adhere to the tank/healer/DPS roles commonly found in games like Overwatch. During the game’s launch night Q&A on the official Discord, they clarified this stance, stating that they encourage players to choose their favorite Marvel characters instead of forcing them into a role that might be unfamiliar or uncomfortable.
It’s fortunate that the hero design aligns with NetEase’s approach, as characters like Cloak & Dagger excel not only in healing but also dealing substantial damage. This versatility allows many heroes to perform multiple roles effectively, which means we don’t necessarily need a role-based queue system, unlike other games.
Chen commented, “Based on the information we’re observing in our system, things are going quite well.” He continued, “We strive to provide a Marvel-like experience where users can customize their own adventure. Since the closed beta testing, things have been reasonable and as anticipated. In our competitive mode lately, there’s been a variety of unique strategies emerging from players, and we aim to keep tracking these exciting strategies and how they influence our game.
