A player of Marvel Rivals has recently designed concept artwork featuring Nightcrawler, a well-known X-Men character who is yet to be playable in this widely played multiplayer game. Although Marvel Rivals was launched with 33 characters, including some renowned heroes and villains such as Captain America, Doctor Strange, Magneto, Thor, Iron Man among others, Nightcrawler has been overlooked despite his immense popularity among Marvel enthusiasts.
The free-to-play live-service third-person hero shooter Marvel Rivals, which was launched earlier in December, has garnered positive responses from critics. On OpenCritic, it currently boasts an average score of 78, primarily due to its well-received roster of characters, gameplay mechanics, and distinctive team-up abilities. However, some reviewers have pointed out that the game lacks substantial progression systems.
Currently, a passionate Marvel Rivals enthusiast named David Herzen (also recognized as Responsible-Ad394) has unveiled an exclusive Nightcrawler design for the game to the public. In this fan-created artwork, Nightcrawler is portrayed with the characteristic elements of Marvel Rivals, donning heavy armor and wielding a blade using his tail. Compared to some traditional Marvel comic book designs, this new concept art distinguishes itself by altering the character’s signature red and black attire, which is typically more straightforward in appearance. The Marvel Rivals community has shown immense appreciation for Herzen’s work, upvoting the fan art over 2,100 times, with numerous fans expressing their desire to see Nightcrawler integrated into Marvel Rivals as soon as possible.

Besides Nightcrawler, Herzen recently has been sharing more than one fan-made idea within the community. This week, a fan design for Gambit in Marvel Rivals was also revealed. The artwork depicts Gambit donning armor, his signature jacket, and a staff. Similar to Nightcrawler, Gambit is another beloved X-Men character who hasn’t been featured in the popular hero shooter, yet remains highly favored among fans.
In a twist, Cyclops, another X-Men character, was portrayed as a hero within the Marvel Rivals series, with designs credited to David Herzen. Similar to other works by this artist, this Cyclops design was more muscular than typically depicted in comic book versions, and he sported a sleek blue and brown outfit.
It’s unfortunate that neither Nightcrawler nor any other X-Men have been definitively announced as joining Marvel Rivals in the future, leaving fans to cross their fingers and hope they might be added down the line. Lately, Marvel Rivals has unveiled five Winter Celebration event skins, giving away a free one for the beloved Jeff the Land Shark and selling premium versions for Venom, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and Magik.
