As a seasoned player of Marvel Rivals, I must say that Hulk is undeniably one of the most formidable characters to have on your team. With his immense strength and unique abilities, he can turn the tide of any battle in his favor.
In the game Marvel Rivals, The Incredible Hulk stands among the leading heroes. He’s an impressive force on the battlefield, capable of steering his team to triumph with ease. Yet, beneath his immense strength lies a character with intricate nuances. Mastering the Hulk might take some practice for players before they fully grasp his unique abilities.
That’s why we’ve created this guide with all the tips, strategies, best team composition, and all the details about Hulk’s abilities. This article also contains a lot of insight into the different game modes and the role Hulk can play in them, as well as the best strategies to counter the Emerald Giant. Let’s start with an Ability breakdown.
Hulk Abilities Overview
As Bruce Banner:
- Gamma Ray Gun: A basic projectile attack that inflicts damage at a long distance and charges the Gama Energy meter.
- Puny Banner: When the Gamma Energy Meter is full, Banner transforms into the Incredible Hulk, gaining new abilities, HP, damage, and an Ultimate.
- Gamma Grenade: Launches a grenade that explodes, causing AoE damage, and launches enemies up. Restores 50 Gamma Energy.
As Hulk:
- Heavy Blow: Basic Melee attack, causes moderate damage.
- Hulk Smash: Becomes Monster Hulk, Increasing Damage, HP, Attack Speed, and Reducing Damage, as well as unlocking World Breaker. While transforming, Hulk becomes Invulnerable.
- Indestructible Guard: Hulk releases Gamma Energy, creating a barrier for him and his allies that blocks a certain amount of damage. The barrier decays over time.
- Radioactive Lockdown: Hulk emits a pulse of Gamma Energy, which briefly immobilizes the first target it hits. Hitting the target with a Heavy Blow or Gamma Burst breaks the effect.
- Incredible Leap: Press and hold the Jump button to charge a leap. The more it charges, the further Hulk jumps. Incredible Leap can bring down flying enemies if Hulk smashes them in the air.
- Gamma Burst: Emits a burst of energy as a directional ranged attack, damaging enemies.
- Gamma Boost – Team-Up Passive: Hulk gains 150 Health while playing alongside Dr. Strange or Iron Man. Dr. Strange also gains an empowered version of Maelstrom of Madness called Gamma Maelstrom. Iron Man, on the other hand, can upgrade himself with a gamma boost when using Armor Overdrive.
- Gamma Fastball – Team-Up Active Skill: When Hulk and Wolverine are on the same team, they can initiate a special combo attack while nearby. Hulk will pick up and throw Wolverine up to 20 meters.
As Monster Hulk:
- World Breaker: When transformed into Monster Hulk, all of Hulk’s abilities gain boosted damage; plus, he can use World Breaker to grab the first enemy on the range and repeatedly smash him against the ground. This causes huge damage and knocks back the target (if it is still alive after that).
Hulk exhibits an intriguing playstyle, as he transitions among three distinct forms: Bruce Banner, The Hulk, and Monster Hulk. As Bruce Banner, this character is frail and can be quickly crushed with a well-placed skillshot. However, when transformed into The Hulk, he gains robust defensive capabilities, including the Indestructible Guard, which safeguards nearby allies.
Radioactive Lockdown is fantastic for containing tricky opponents such as Iron Fist, who have a knack for dodging and causing chaos in the backline. Hulk’s equipment suite is quite comprehensive, offering repositioning through Incredible Leap, and it boasts many beneficial team synergies due to its Team-Up passives. Moreover, it excels at immobilizing dangerous adversaries like Punisher, who can wreak havoc when the enemy team is preoccupied.
As a gamer, I’ve found that Hulk isn’t as easily countered due to his strength and durability. However, he does have a significant flaw – transform back into Banner when health reaches zero, making him vulnerable and easy to eliminate. But beware! The human version of the Emerald Giant, Bruce Banner, carries a powerful grenade that not only recharges his gamma energy but also propels enemies away, giving me a brief moment to retreat and regroup.
Remarkably, Incredible Leap serves as an ideal bridge between attacks, enabling the Hulk to knock airborne adversaries such as Storm and Iron Man out of the sky. However, he doesn’t have the ability to jump straight up. Instead, scaling a tall ledge provides him with an additional edge for executing a powerful aerial takedown effectively.
How To Play Hulk In Marvel Rivals
Convoy Mode
During combat, initiating as Bruce Banner gives players an advantage because it allows them ample time to strategically place themselves and target the enemy spawn area with the Gamma Grenade. This tactic delays the enemies, providing a short moment for Bruce to hide and transform into the Hulk. If the enemies are still anticipating to battle the weak Banner, this sudden transformation can catch them off guard.
Instead of being a lone warrior, Hulk operates best when working in harmony with his teammates. To secure victories and achieve objectives, he relies on their coordination. When it comes to Defense mode, Hulk truly shines by safeguarding crucial targets and keeping enemy forces at bay from the payload area.
While Attacking, Hulk’s Incredible Leap allows him to plummet from the heavens and crush his adversaries. With Radioactive Lockdown, he can immobilize swift opponents such as Iron Fist, Star-Lord, and Jeff The Land Shark.
Prioritizing team safety might appear less critical, while focusing on transporting the cargo could be more beneficial. However, avoid being sidetracked by this, since unity is crucial for our survival. Gather everyone up and employ the Indestructible Guard to provide them with protection.
Domination Mode
In Domination game mode, Hulk demonstrates an impressive ability to deal immense damage, especially when teamed up with Dr. Strange and Iron Man. Wolverine is another excellent pick due to his capability to execute the Fast Ball Special, a signature move he shares with Hulk. Immerse yourself in the chaos, accumulate Gamma Energy, and once amassed, transform into Monster Hulk. Seize control by targeting key figures such as Thor, Venom, Peni Parker, or Iron Fist and annihilate them using the devastating World Breaker attack.
With this final move, you could knock out many of the Vanguard members (with the possible exception of Venom), pushing them back to the respawn area. However, be aware that it will also complete Monster Hulk’s transformation, so pick the perfect timing for deployment.
Generally speaking, Hulk tends to move between attacking positions and defensive lines primarily to safeguard his Strategists. Therefore, watch out for Psylocke, Cloak & Dagger, Moon Knight, and Black Panther as they have the potential to disrupt allies in a blink of an eye. It’s also important to be cautious about Jeff the Land Shark, who can prove quite troublesome and is particularly effective against Hulk.
Here’s my take on paraphrasing that description in first-person perspective as a fan:
Convergence Mode
While Defending, much like Convoy Mode, safeguarding the captured area will be Hulk’s utmost concern. Once the target is secured, Hulk can maintain control indefinitely, unless he encounters a massive assault from enemy reinforcements or Jeff forces him out using his ultimate ability.
In essence, it’s clear that Hulk stands out due to his impressive power and robust health, making it smart to pair him with a healer and control an area, while the rest of the group attacks from a secure distance. A clever tactic is to use Hulk’s transformation into Monster Hulk when in trouble, as he becomes invincible during this change, providing valuable additional time for him to maintain the position until reinforcements arrive.
In simpler terms, Hulk has the ability to temporarily become invincible by activating his transformations for a short while. This makes him more powerful and allows him to respond effectively against aggressive strategies. However, beware when Hulk transforms into Bruce Banner (his weakest form), as he can be easily defeated in an instant.
While on the Attack, Hulk can team up with fellow Vanguards such as Venom to establish a robust frontline that withstands all incoming attacks. The opposition will likely take refuge and employ tactical deployables (like Punisher’s Turret or Rocket Raccoon’s support stations) to keep attackers at bay. When combined, Hawkeye and Black Widow can prove quite troublesome, especially if Hawkeye triggers his ultimate near her as it essentially provides them with enhanced accuracy.
As a devoted fan, I’d suggest adopting a tactic similar to Venom’s approach to avoid finding ourselves in hot water, also known as the Killzone. Here’s what you do: Launch a pincer attack with Venom, strategically positioning yourself alongside the Duelists. Split your support team into two groups; one group stays with Hulk and Venom, acting as a magnet for enemy fire, while the other carries out their duties unhindered. With Hulk acting as an obvious target or shield, the rest of us can focus on our tasks effectively.
How To Counter Hulk In Marvel Rivals
Convoy Mode
In the heat of battle, Hulk will take the forefront. Await the opportune time when he has exhausted his invincible defense, then strike, unleashing all your firepower on that colossal green creature. However, refrain from harming Banner once he metamorphoses.
Rather than eliminating him, it’s more advantageous to let him survive because it takes him a longer time to recharge his Gamma Counter compared to the time it would take to kill him and have him respawn with full energy. This means he will be less effective for his team for an extended period. However, do remember to avoid his grenades and Gamma Blaster attacks.
When the Hulk is present during an attack, many teams often become anxious, possibly overlooking the opportunity for Brian Banner (Banner) to sneak in and catch them off guard. He might be buying time using a grenade followed by a transformation trick. It would be wise to immediately eliminate him upon detection.
A strategic shot from Black Widow or Hawkeye could disrupt his plan or make him resort to Hulk. In such a scenario, it’s important to keep Hulk away from the team, as he performs optimally with allies. Winter Soldier can employ his Bionic Hook to draw him in, and then the rest of the team can quickly take him down piece by piece.
Domination Mode
In Dominion, Hulk shines as a stalwart defender, serving as an imposing barrier preventing the enemy team from claiming the zone. However, when it comes to dealing with such a powerful obstacle, Jeff The Land Shark stands out as the most effective solution due to his ability to consume Hulk and hurl him into a lethal area.
If you don’t transform, you won’t gain invulnerability, so be on the lookout for chances to knock him down and remove him from the battlefield. Thor can perform a similar action by using his Storm Surge to move him out of position. Given his large size, it will be hard to miss him.
Convergence Mode
In the course of Defense, Hulk will spearhead a two-pronged assault alongside fellow Vanguards and Duelists. The optimal strategy would be to arrange your team in a dispersed formation, always keeping an eye on all potential entry points. Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Star-Lord make excellent pursuers, and their agility and hit-and-run abilities can prove crucial for thwarting counter attacks led by Hulk’s teammates.
In an offensive scenario, Hulk focuses on guarding the objective. The most effective strategy to handle him is to draw him away from the zone. Utilizing Magik or Luna Snow to bait him out is a clever tactic. Magneto can also make him engage in a one-on-one battle and move him farther from the zone. However, much like other game modes, Jeff the Land Shark appears to be the optimal pick for swiftly removing him from the area – that creature is quite formidable.
Best Team Composition For Hulk In Marvel Rivals
In the popular game Marvel Rivals, an optimal team setup for Hulk features Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Jeff The Land Shark, and The Punisher. This is because Hulk, as Bruce Banner or Monster Hulk, benefits from additional seasonal bonuses and team bonuses when paired with two of the original Avengers. Consequently, it’s wise to have Strange and Stark join forces with Banner in the game.
On a different note, the special team-up between Hulk and Wolverine offers an entertaining gameplay experience and is particularly powerful against characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye, who currently dominate in combat. To top it off, Jeff The Land Shark makes an excellent support for Hulk due to his ability to consistently heal and switch between attacking and supporting roles. Meanwhile, Punisher serves as the ideal long-range damage dealer, backing up Jeff and defending him from aggressive opponents such as Iron Fist.
