Marvel Rivals Has an MCU-Inspired Layup It Should Milk in February

Marvel Rivals Has an MCU-Inspired Layup It Should Milk in February

As a longtime gamer and Marvel fanatic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of Marvel Rivals has me absolutely thrilled. With Psylocke and Moon Knight joining the roster, it’s clear that this game is shaping up to be a marvelous (pun intended) addition to the genre.

As a gamer excited about the upcoming release of Marvel Rivals next month, I can’t help but feel thrilled with each new character announcement, like Psylocke and Moon Knight who’ve recently joined the fray. It’s intriguing that there are still many iconic Marvel figures yet to be officially announced, hinting at a potential lineup expansion post-launch.

Since blockbusters like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, the Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) has experienced a bit of a slowdown. However, each new movie and series has been gradually establishing a foundation for its upcoming chapters and sagas. Forthcoming 2025 films such as “Thunderbolts” and “Captain America: Brave New World” show promise as grittier sequels emulating the success of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. Notably, “Captain America: Brave New World” will feature Sam Wilson’s return to the role of Captain America following his donning of the shield in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, making it crucial for other Marvel productions to keep pace.

Marvel Rivals Debuting Sam Wilson’s Captain America in February Would Be a Match Made in Heaven

Instead of his former Falcon identity, Sam Wilson’s Captain America flies with the aid of a propulsion wingsuit and carries the renowned vibranium star-spangled shield, similar to Steve Rogers’ Captain America. Introducing Sam into Marvel Rivals alongside Steve presents unique difficulties due to their shared name and shield, but it could also lead to engaging team-up interactions between the two characters. The upcoming release of Captain America: Brave New World is set for Valentine’s Day, and although there are no current plans for Marvel Rivals to launch anything concurrently or even announce Sam as a playable character, it would be a squandered chance not to do so.

It would seem limiting to exclusively spotlight Sam as Falcon in Marvel Rivals, even though Captain America will initially be part of the team at launch, given that Sam has portrayed the role of Captain America extensively in comic books for over a decade.

Marvel Rivals Doesn’t Need to Be Beholden to the MCU, But It Could Be a Boon Nonetheless

Marvel Rivals Has an MCU-Inspired Layup It Should Milk in February

It’s not mandatory for Marvel Rivals to align with the MCU’s release schedule, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to introduce Sam Wilson’s Captain America around the same time as “Captain America: Brave New World” premieres. This strategic move could boost interest in both Marvel Rivals and the wider MCU universe.

Moreover, it appears that Marvel Rivals has unveiled cosmetics based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for characters like Rocket Raccoon, Thor, Groot, and Star-Lord. This might imply that a complete character launch synchronized with MCU movie releases could be within reach.

If the pace and quantity of cosmetic items inspired by Marvel Comics Universe (MCU) continues at the same level as seen in “Marvel’s Avengers”, it’s possible that the Hulk character in “Marvel Rivals” could get a red Thaddeus Ross skin at the same time.

Instead of introducing Sam at a later, less significant date, Marvel Rivals might be saving him for February to make the event more memorable. If this hero shooter is indeed planning to introduce Sam in the future, there seems to be no better time than around the release of Captain America: Brave New World. Regardless, it’s exciting to speculate who else might join the Marvel Rivals launch roster, and we can’t wait to see which characters will be added post-launch.
