Marvel Rivals: Most Underpowered Heroes

As a longtime Marvel fan and gamer, I must say that my initial excitement for Marvel Rivals was quickly dampened when I realized that some of my favorite characters were not living up to their potential. One of these disappointing characters is Storm.

Storm, a mighty mutant and X-Men member, has always been known for her powerful abilities and commanding presence. However, in Marvel Rivals, she feels more like a gust of wind rather than the tempest that she truly is. Her kit is underwhelming, making her not just the weakest Duelist but the weakest Hero in the game.

As someone who grew up watching Storm control the elements and protect the X-Men, it’s heartbreaking to see her reduced to an ineffective flying target. The buffs she provides to her teammates and herself are barely noticeable, making her feel like just another character on the battlefield rather than a mighty mutant with the power to control the weather.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Iron Man, Storm’s fellow flying Hero, can rely on the splash damage of his basic attacks, while Storm doesn’t have that luxury. Instead, the piercing properties of her basic wind attacks are practically ineffective while in the air. It feels like the developers took Storm’s powerful abilities and stripped them away, leaving us with just a shell of the character we know and love.

On a lighter note, I can’t help but think that if Storm were to truly unleash her full potential, she could give Hurricane Sandy a run for its money! But until then, I’ll be waiting patiently for an update that gives this mighty mutant the power and respect she deserves in Marvel Rivals.

In the realm of hero-shooting games, Marvel Rivals offers an impressive lineup of 33 distinct characters, allowing each player to select the one that aligns most with their preferred gameplay approach.

Each hero’s equipment, or “kit,” is customized to embody the desired powerful image for that particular character. The role they are intended to play is carefully considered during creation, and their effectiveness in fulfilling this role significantly impacts their standing within the game’s overall strategy, often referred to as the “meta.

Regrettably, certain heroes may struggle to keep pace with their comrades and might not live up to expectations during gameplay. Although they could potentially offer amusement theoretically, in reality these characters often fail to measure up against others, either being overwhelmed or outperformed, or simply lacking impact in a team scenario.

8. Black Panther

Bad Kitty!

Black Panther exemplifies a situation with significant payoff and minimal danger. Engaging in fierce battles necessitates dependable means of survival, and unfortunately, Black Panther’s equipment often makes it challenging for him to do so effectively.

To effectively contribute to his team, T’Challa heavily depends on executing precise Vibranium strikes and intricate combos, a challenge in itself as he navigates through an enemy group without meeting his demise.

Apart from his throwing spear, the ruler of Wakanda predominantly relies on close-combat and can only attack as far as his claws can stretch. His passive ability increases his damage by 20% when he’s low on health, but this effect isn’t very pronounced.

From my perspective, it’s rare that Black Panther players successfully eliminated me when I had teammates supporting me. Perhaps he could benefit from an extended range or a larger area of impact to pose a significant challenge to his opponents.

7. Rocket Raccoon

A True Trash Panda

Rocket Raccoon is a dependable ally in combat, capable of unleashing continuous gunfire on opponents, resurrecting teammates with the B.R.B. device, and keeping himself hard-to-grab for enemies. Essentially, he’s an agile character to control on the battlefield.

Regrettably, his healing isn’t dependable, which poses a challenge for skilled Rocket players to maintain consistent healing. In contrast to his teammate Adam, Rocket contributes less damage in an attempt to compensate for his weaker healing abilities.

The equipment like armor packs and rocket boosts generated by the BRB machine appear to be largely ineffective, offering only minimal benefits such as an additional 25 health points and a jump motion that seems unpolished or incomplete.

If the developers want to keep Rocket’s healing low, they might consider enhancing his armor packs slightly instead. For instance, they could provide an additional 50 health points and a minor damage reduction, or allow the extra health to accumulate up to a certain cap.

6. Thor

Blocking With His Face

It’s fortunate for Thor’s adversaries that Mjölnir doesn’t have a long reach, meaning he must either hurl his reliable hammer or get quite near to inflict any harm.

As a long-time gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I have encountered many characters in various games, but none quite as challenging to play effectively as Thor. My personal opinion is that he has two significant hurdles: limited mobility and damage mitigation.

Thorforce, while providing some extra health, offers few options for blocking or regenerating health. This can make him a tricky character to manage in the heat of battle, especially when compared to other heroes who have more versatile abilities.

Despite these challenges, I find myself drawn to Thor due to his unique playstyle and immense power. Overcoming these obstacles has become a thrilling part of my gaming journey, pushing me to adapt my strategies and learn the intricacies of this mighty Avenger.

He inflicts commendable harm, yet struggles to perform effectively as a tank due to the need to be perilously close to be potent. Extending Thor’s attack range could significantly improve his performance.

5. Captain America

Avengers Disassembled

In his role as the Super Soldier, Captain America embodies the unyielding fighting spirit that humans possess, along with the American ideal of unity and prosperity. However, it’s worth noting that Rogers is not particularly lethal or durable; he finds himself in a precarious position between being a brawler and a tough tank.

Captain America primarily works in tandem with his team, serving as a mobile guardian, but his shield offers less collective defense compared to Doctor Strange’s. His talents, Liberty Rush and Super-Soldier Slam, are more about causing inconvenient knockbacks rather than posing significant threats.

To enhance the power of the Star-Spangled Soldier in his two attacks, consider adding a bit more force, and maybe even slightly increasing the damage he inflicts. It seems Captain America isn’t exhibiting his full potential at the moment.

4. Hulk

Puny Hulk

In battles, the Hulk needs to appear as a formidable adversary, but his ordinary melee attacks seem more like swatting enemies with limp spaghetti, and it would be beneficial if his charged jump had a slight knockback effect or area-of-effect damage.

Currently, the Hulk appears to be more of an inconvenience rather than a fearsome creature. To put it simply, the Monster Hulk functions primarily as a health buffer with 1400 hit points, yet he lacks effective means to retaliate against his adversaries.

Although Hulk possesses a respectable arsenal of abilities, he lacks effective methods for inflicting damage compared to his Vanguard counterparts. Even Monster Hulk’s intimidating slam attack, which appears formidable and potent, fails to defeat an opponent with 250 health points.

To amplify Hulk’s threat against more fragile opponents, it would be beneficial to increase the amount of damage inflicted on his regular attacks as well as his World Breaker Ultimate move.

3. Black Widow

Done Dirty Again

Black Widow seems disappointing to control, as she’s meant to be a skilled marksman. However, it’s quite challenging for her to instantly defeat Heroes with 250 health, not even with a headshot, and her Ultimate doesn’t deal much damage in a sluggish area of effect.

As a gamer, I’ve found this character to have a steep skill-learning edge, yet not much to keep me hooked other than her role as a sniper. Unfortunately, she lacks significant mobility, only boasting a sprint and enhanced jump. To top it off, her batons are both feeble and sluggish in combat.

2. Wolverine

Moonlights As A Back Scratcher

In Marvel Rivals, players find it challenging to enjoy the immortal character fantasy when playing as Wolverine, since his automatic healing ability doesn’t ensure consistent survival during intense battles.

Regarding his equipment, he appears and seems to perform like Wolverine, yet his damage output is insufficient, even when boosted by his rage gauge. Moreover, the detection for hits in his Feral Leap ability can be quite inconsistent, making it challenging to hit enemies, let alone consistently so.

In my view, Wolverine’s regeneration passive cool-down duration is excessively long. This hinders his ability to maintain survivability throughout the game, making it difficult for him to frequently engage aggressively. I suggest shortening the cooldown from 90 seconds to 60 seconds, which would give players more confidence when playing as Wolverine.

As it stands now, Wolverine is just too weak as a melee-focused DPS character.

1. Storm

Must’ve Been The Wind

It’s quite surprising that despite Storm being arguably one of the strongest X-Men, her abilities in Marvel Rivals seem to be significantly less powerful, resulting in her being not only the weakest Duelist but also the weakest hero overall in the game.

In contrast to Iron Man, Storm is the sole aerial hero who possesses all of his vulnerabilities yet lacks any of his advantages. In flight, she becomes an easily identifiable mark, while the minor boosts she offers her teammates and self go largely unnoticed.

Additionally, unlike Iron Man, Storm lacks the benefit of splash damage from her basic attacks. Conversely, the penetrating force of her wind attacks is scarcely impactful when she’s airborne.
