Marvel Rivals Players Aren't Happy With The Gold Rank Competitive Reward

Highlights

  • Some Marvel Rivals players are disappointed that the reward for hitting the Competitive mode’s Gold Rank is a single spray.
  • The said spray is one of the select few cosmetics that will carry over from the ongoing Marvel Rivals beta to the full game.

As a long-time fan of Marvel and competitive gaming, I was initially thrilled to learn about the upcoming release of Marvel Rivals, a new hero shooter set in the Marvel Universe. The game’s stunning visuals and impressive roster of iconic characters piqued my interest right from the start. So, when the closed beta was announced, I eagerly signed up, excited to get an early look at this promising title.

A significant number of Marvel Rivals fans were dismayed when they found out that achieving the game’s Gold Rank only grants you a single spray as a reward. This news seems to have temporarily deterred some players from continuing to compete in Marvel Rivals’ Competitive mode.

Fans of the upcoming NetEase-developed hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, have been given an opportunity to experience the game before its official release through a closed beta testing phase. This beta commenced on July 23 and is set to end on August 5. Although most cosmetics earned during this time won’t transfer to the final version of the game, NetEase has granted some exceptions as a token of appreciation for the early testers’ invaluable feedback.

Some Marvel Rivals Players Think Gold Rank Reward Isn’t Worth the Grind

Some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with not all of the permanent rewards in Marvel Rivals’ Competitive mode, as shown by the surge of complaints about the Tooth and Hammer spray given to those reaching Gold Rank. A Reddit user named SomeoneSaidTrash stated on July 27, “I didn’t even hit Gold for a spray?” This sentiment was echoed by many other fans.

Although the spray’s unveiling failed to impress most people in the subsequent conversation, some users, like Reddit’s Lunas142, were actually glad to discover that the Gold Rank reward is insignificant. This revelation led Lunas142 to abandon Competitive mode and opt for Quick Matches instead, which they considered more enjoyable. Likewise, several other Marvel Rivals fans echoed this sentiment due to their growing frustration with ranked play during the beta’s advancement.

NetEasie announced an eye-catching beta reward from Marvel Rivals: the Cyan Clash costume for Venom. To obtain this coveted cosmetic, players must engage in the current special event and accumulate experience points (XP). A multitude of fans seem more drawn to hero skins compared to sprays due to their constant visibility. Sprays necessitate active use, whereas costumes remain a permanent part of a character’s appearance.

Despite some criticism regarding its competitive potential, the Marvel Rivals closed beta was a major success with over 52,000 simultaneous Steam players on its launch day. Players were impressed by its striking visuals and intuitive controls, as well as the excitement of the Quick Match mode. However, others have raised concerns about its ability to sustain long-term competition, pointing out that it doesn’t offer the same level of precision as other popular esports games.
