As a longtime Marvel fan who has been reading comics since I was a squirrel-crazy kid, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the new design of Squirrel Girl in Marvel Rivals. Having followed her adventures from her debut in 1991, it’s refreshing to see her get the respect she deserves in this battle royale game.
The comparisons between her current iteration and past versions are fascinating, and I have to admit that I prefer this stylized version over the more blocky ones from Marvel: Avengers Alliance or the Marvel-themed LEGO games. It’s like comparing a sleek, modern squirrel suit to a cardboard box with a couple of holes cut out for eyes – one just looks cooler!
It’s also great to see lesser-known characters like Luna Snow and Iron Fist get their time in the spotlight, and I can’t wait to see who else NetEase brings into the Marvel Rivals universe. And while some might say that Wolverine’s design is a bit too “claw-ful,” I think he’s purr-fectly fine.
Now, if only they could somehow incorporate a squirrel-themed skin for Deadpool… because who doesn’t want to see a miniature, furry version of the Merc with a Mouth wreaking havoc? That would be the nuttiest thing since peanut butter and jelly!
Some fans of the game “Marvel Rivals” are jokingly comparing the game’s portrayal of Squirrel Girl to previous versions, with many favoring NetEase’s interpretation of the squirrel-controlling heroine. This game combines some of the most well-known characters from comics with “Overwatch”-style action for a multiplayer battle royale that has already become popular among gamers. The game’s lineup includes popular characters such as Hulk and Spider-Man, along with lesser-known characters like Luna Snow and the Lin Lie variation of Iron Fist.
The lineup for the Marvel Rivals game includes an unusual superhero known as Squirrel Girl. Since her debut in Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #8 in 1991, she’s been a hero on the scene. Doreen Allene Green has the unique ability to talk with squirrels and possesses powers reminiscent of these tiny creatures. These abilities have allowed her to go head-to-head with some of the mightiest characters in the Marvel universe. Squirrel Girl was confirmed as a playable character, joining Iron Fist, in the Marvel Rivals game back in November, just a few weeks before its release on December 6.
Ever since Marvel Rivals introduced its version of Squirrel Girl, she has become a beloved character for both play and cosplay among fans. Some users on r/marvelrivals have even started to compare her to previous representations of the character in other Marvel games. Specifically, PandaThatSLAYS posted a comparison photo of the Squirrel Girl from the 2015 mobile game Marvel Future Fight and her more modern counterpart from Marvel Rivals, with many commenters expressing a preference for the latter.
Many Marvel Rivals Fans Prefer Squirrel Girl’s New Look
In 2012’s Marvel: Avengers Alliance and the Marvel-themed LEGO games by Traveler’s Tales, other gamers have commented on their preferences for Squirrel Girl’s appearance and noted that it appears blocky in these games. One fan specifically mentioned Squirrel Girl’s initial comic book debut, stating that her first appearance was somewhat strange compared to the game designs, which they consider a significant improvement.
Generally speaking, many players of the game “Marvel Rivals” have commended Squirrel Girl’s new appearance and shown admiration for the game’s focus on less prominent characters from the Marvel Universe that haven’t been highlighted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). On the other hand, the depiction of Wolverine in “Marvel Rivals” has received quite a bit of criticism. However, most characters in the game boast a distinctive, stylized appearance that has contributed to the widespread appeal of “Marvel Rivals” among comic book readers and enthusiasts of multiplayer hero games. In the pipeline are additional characters for “Marvel Rivals,” which could lead to increased comparisons with previous Marvel-themed games in the future.
