Marvel Snap: Complete High Voltage Guide (Decks, Tips, Counters)

Marvel Snap: Complete High Voltage Guide (Decks, Tips, Counters)

As a longtime Marvel Snap player, I’ve seen my fair share of deck-building strategies and card combinations that leave opponents reeling. After giving High Voltage mode a good spin, I must say it’s an exhilarating experience, full of unpredictability and rapid-fire gameplay.

In a new twist for Marvel Snap, the latest game mode is titled High Voltage. Much like Deadpool’s Diner before it, this is a special, time-limited event created by Second Dinner. The appeal lies in the thrill of playing fast-paced Marvel Snap games with no significant consequences if you lose. Instead, victories grant enticing rewards, while losses are merely learning experiences without any penalty.

In the official Marvel Snap blog post about the game mode, the creators shared their plans: “While Battle Mode delved into longer matches featuring extensive details on opponents’ strategies, and Deadpool’s Diner emphasized snapping and retreating, High Voltage takes a different approach. It offers quick-tempo games filled with concealed information, with an emphasis on creating unexpected combinations of cards.

High Voltage Mode Explained

  • Type: Event
  • Game Duration: 1–2 minutes per match
  • Event Duration: 7 days (Ends on October 24th at 12:00 PM PST)
  • Currency: Volt
  • Reward: Free Card (Agony)

In the game Marvel Snap, the High Voltage mode is a special temporary feature that focuses on quick-moving gameplay. Each match in this mode consists of three individual rounds. At the beginning of each round, the Energy points are randomly determined. Unlike regular play, you won’t be able to use the Snap ability, and at the start of your turn, you’ll receive two cards instead of one as usual.

In this game, you have the freedom to engage in High Voltage mode multiple times without any restrictions, unlike the time-limited event, Deadpool’s Dinner. Unlike that event, which requires tickets or currency to participate, High Voltage mode starts a match with no need for tickets or currencies. Furthermore, if you are defeated in this mode, you won’t lose anything, making it an appealing risk-free experience with potential high rewards.

How the Arc Reactor Works

RoundPossible EnergyMin/Max Energy
One2 to 52 to 5
Two2 to 54 to 10
Three2 to 56 to 15

In the “Marvel Snap” game’s High Voltage setting, the Arc Reactor takes over the function of the Snap button. Its purpose is to scatter between two and five Energy points among players at the onset of each round. An interesting feature is that the Energy points amassed by the Reactor continue to accumulate even after they’ve been utilized.

In simpler terms, starting the initial round with 3 Energy points and using them all, you’ll have a minimum of 5 Energy points for the next turn, with a potential increase up to 8 points. The Reactor will then supply an extra 2 to 5 Energy points, adding to the Energy points from the previous round.

Best Decks and Cards for the High Voltage Mode

At present, the conventional Zoo and Hela decks are doing quite well in the High Voltage setting. On the other hand, an alternative strategy involving Blob, Alioth, Skaar, and Baron Zemo – currently the best performer – is another option you might consider.

Because High Voltage mode operates at a quick speed with elements determined by random chance, numerous approaches can be used when constructing a deck. Consequently, pinpointing only one or two optimal strategies for this specific event proves challenging.

According to the latest data, these cards have been particularly effective in High Voltage games, providing a strong foundation for strategic deck-building.

  • Hulkling: Excellent for leveraging the mode’s RNG.
  • Blob: A powerhouse that exploits cards in your deck.
  • Super Skrull: A tech card with high potential for growth, as Ongoing is a popular archetype in High Voltage’s META.
  • Alioth: A destructive tech card that nullifies opponents’ final-round strategies.
  • Ebony Maw: Great for dominating one of the three lanes as early as the first round.
  • The Living Tribunal: Essential for power distribution in tall rather than wide decks.
  • Morph: The best joker or surprise drop for this mode.
  • Odin: A reliable buff option.
  • Infinaut: A solid win condition for the third round, though you’ll need to skip the second round.
  • Taskmaster: Another excellent option for power distribution like The Living Tribunal.
  • Shuri: A consistent buff option for tall strategies.
  • Black Panther: Perfect for building power.
  • Arnim Zola: A good power distributor, especially when paired with Black Panther.

Cards That Are Banned in High Voltage

In a nutshell, due to its fast-paced nature, High Voltage’s gameplay could potentially be exploited. To ensure fairness and prevent devastating combinations from arising, Second Dinner has prohibited the use of three specific cards in this mode: Galactus, Magik, and Black Widow.

  • Galactus: Could allow players to skip the first two rounds and then win by dropping him in one of the weaker locations.
  • Magik: Would extend the game, which contradicts the mode’s focus on fast-paced matches.
  • Black Widow: Has the potential to disrupt gameplay by filling the opponent’s hand with Widow’s Bites.

How to Unlock Agony with Volts

To get Agony for free without any charge, you’ll need 11,000 Volts. However, winning High Voltage matches will only earn you 20 Volts at a time, which is quite small compared to the amount needed. A more productive approach to unlock this card would be by finishing daily event missions every eight hours. These missions can potentially reward you with as much as 2,475 Volts per day. The missions are refreshed every eight hours, giving you a chance to complete six objectives in a day.

To earn Agony within six days during the event, make sure to accumulate as many daily mission points as possible.

If you can’t wait for the eight-hour daily resets, you can use Gold to refill your daily missions.
