Marvel Snap: Misery Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

Marvel Snap: Misery Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

As a seasoned Marvel Snap enthusiast with over a decade of card-slapping under my belt, I must say that Misery has truly turned the tables! Initially, I thought she was just another mill deck darling, but boy, was I wrong. This sassy vixen packs a punch in various archetypes, especially when paired with Thanos.

Misery was added to the Marvel Snap collection as a fresh On Reveal card, capable of triggering other cards’ effects in her lane before eliminating them. At first glance, Misery appeared perfectly suited for mill decks according to her description. However, new findings suggest that she can be an effective player in various other strategies too.

In this Marvel “Snap” game setup, Misery teams up with Thanos, enhancing the power of his gems and maintaining a clutter-free game board. Additionally, the guide provides a “mill” variant for Misery decks, allowing players to fully utilize her disruption abilities.

The Best Deck for Misery

Marvel Snap: Misery Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

In a mill strategy, which is reminiscent of a flour mill, Misery works exceptionally well when combined with Thanos. This is due to the fact that Misery amplifies the impact of Thanos’ stones and clears them from play, enabling more potent cards to be utilized. To create a similar setup, consider teaming up Misery and Thanos with these characters: Death, Killmonger, Mockingbird, Nova, Yondu, Angel, Shang-Chi, Lady Deathstrike, Cull Obsidian, and The Hood.

Misery Deck Synergies Explained

  • Misery doubles the On Reveal effects on the board and clears out board-clogging cards.
  • Killmonger and Lady Deathstrike serve as backup options to clear the board if Misery isn’t drawn.
  • Death, Thanos, Mockingbird, and Cull Obsidian act as win conditions that benefit from destruction and On Reveal effects.
  • Nova, Yondu, and The Hood are disruption cards that can be destroyed after their On Reveal effects. (Angel can potentially replace any of these destroyed cards, adding extra Power to the board.)
  • Shang-Chi is the tech card.

How to Play Misery in a Mill Deck

To construct a mill deck for Misery, consider teaming her up with cards such as Yondu, Cable, Gladiator, Scorpion, Black Widow, Doctor Octopus, and Baron Zemo. The primary objective of a mill deck is to restrict your opponent’s draw options and control their hand extensively. If you decide to employ this tactic, remember to incorporate Knull as your victory condition, as he complements the mill strategy effectively.

If there are no Reveal cards in the lane, Misery will cause no destruction. Furthermore, when cards such as Armor are present, Misery can only activate other cards’ abilities without causing their destruction.

How to Counter Misery

Blending Armor and Cosmo significantly reduces Miseries influence, but since many Miseries decks are bolstered by figures like Knull, using Shadow King to counteract her is also a strategic move. Shadow King has the ability to reset any card’s stats that have been boosted, thus limiting Miserys impact on the battlefield.

Is Misery Worth It?

Marvel Snap: Misery Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

Misery’s performance has exceeded expectations, but she remains a skippable card, as she is primarily a niche option for destroy or mill decks. If resources aren’t a concern, you can consider Misery as a cheaper alternative to Odin for On Reveal-heavy decks that benefit from destruction or disruption. However, if you’re low on resources, it’s advisable to focus on more practical cards that are set to be released.
