Marvel Snap: Scorn Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

As a seasoned Marvel Snap player with countless hours under my belt, I can confidently say that Scorn is a game-changer for discard enthusiasts like myself. This little powerhouse has brought a fresh breath of life to the discard archetype, making it even more enticing to delve deeper into this strategic playstyle.

For October’s newest release from Marvel Snap, there’s a single-cost, dual-power card named Scorn, which possesses a unique discard ability. By discarding her, you can bring her back to your hand and enhance one randomly chosen card on the game board.

As a dedicated Marvel Snap player like myself, I wasn’t surprised when Scorn joined the game for this month. She’s a fantastic choice, especially for enthusiasts of the discard archetype. However, her straightforward integration within this specific archetype has made it tricky for every player to construct an efficient deck that makes optimal use of her abilities. To help with this challenge, I’ve curated a META lineup designed to fully leverage Scorn’s potential and establish her as one of your dependable discard units.

Scorn (1-2)

As a gamer, when I get rid of this card, I’ll be able to snatch it back to my hand and pump up its power by 2. Plus, I’ll also boost the power of another card I have on the table by the same amount!

The Best Deck for Scorn

Marvel Snap: Scorn Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

To build the best deck for Scorn, include her in a standard META discard lineup featuring Dracula, Morbius, and Apocalypse as your win conditions. For a more effective outcome, fill the other slots with the following cards: Gambit, Modok, Daken, Blade, Lady Sif, Sword Master, Colleen Wing, and Proxima Midnight.

Scorn Deck Synergies

  • Blade, Modok, Gambit, Sword Master, Lady Sif, and Colleen Wing are discard providers.
  • Morbius, Dracula, and Apocalypse are the discard beneficiaries (and also your win conditions).
  • Daken and Proxima Midnight are the surprise buff cards. They can provide additional Power in weaker locations.
  • Scorn is the primary buff provider. You want to discard her multiple times so your played cards are bigger.

How to Play Scorn

If you’re employing a discard strategy, Scorn can be easily integrated. Get rid of her on the board as soon as you have another card out, then keep utilizing cards that discard to amplify her impact.

When playing Scorn, keep these points in mind:

  • Scorn’s effect can be triggered while she’s in your hand; you don’t need to play her before the discard action.
  • Aim to play at least one card before discarding Scorn, as she can only buff cards that are in play. Discarding her when the board is empty means you’ll miss out on her +2 Power reward.
  • Scorn doesn’t pair well with Swarm. While it might seem otherwise, the duo can clutter your hand. You want to discard Scorn as many times as possible, but doing so with Swarm in play might lead to hand congestion.

How to Counter Scorn

Against Scorn’s dominant tech trio of Shadow King, Red Guardian, and Shang-Chi, Scorn’s main challenge is finding an effective counterplay. Instead, try implementing a disruption strategy. This approach aims at impacting cards that gain from Scorn’s influence or the discard action overall.

Is Scorn Worth It?

Marvel Snap: Scorn Guide (Deck, Strategy, Counter)

Scorn has been one of the more potent cards recently, thanks to her powerful alignments with the theme of discarding. Yet, it’s worth noting that she isn’t overly adaptable; she works best within established discard-based decks rather than being easily integrated as a general card.

If you seldom use discard decks, it’s wiser to pass on Scorn. But if your deck excels at discarding cards, she can significantly boost its power and is worth considering for your collection. In the recent High Voltage event, Scorn proved to be an exceptionally effective early card, showcasing her potential as a potent choice.
