As a longtime Marvel enthusiast and avid player of Marvel Snap, I am absolutely thrilled about this season’s War of the Nine Realms! The return of beloved characters like Odin, Thor, Loki, and the colossal Surtur has me giddy with anticipation.
The latest season for Marvel Snap, titled “War of the Nine Realms,” has been unveiled! As suggested by its name, the storyline revolves around Asgard and brings back popular characters such as Odin, Thor, Loki, Surtur, among others. This season also welcomes Deadpool’s Diner back to the scene, and fans can look forward to the new season pass, making it an exciting time for Marvel enthusiasts!
The upcoming month will see the continuation of Marvel Snap’s season, following its regular pattern of release. In this new season, you may have observed that Surtur is given significant attention in the promotional artwork, as well as cards, variants, booster packs, and titles connected to him. Although the rewards for free players and Premium Season Pass holders differ within Marvel Snap, the overall theme remains the same. This month’s Season Pass focuses on Surtur, leading some players to question how his abilities interact with his persona.

Surtur’s Identity in Marvel Comics
In the vast realm of Marvel Comics, I find myself captivated by a formidable adversary named Surtur. Known for his relentless animosity towards Odin and Thor, this towering figure rules over Muspelheim – an infernal dimension perpetually ablaze with fire. His army of Fire Demons bows to his command, and at over 1,000 feet tall, he casts a menacing shadow. Wielding the mighty Twilight, a sword that can obliterate entire worlds, Surtur is a force to be reckoned with.
“Surtur is one of the strongest villains in Marvel Comics.”
As a gamer immersed in the world of Asgardian lore, I’ve noticed an intriguing pattern between Loki and Surtur – they seem to keep crossing paths under less than friendly terms. For instance, there was this one time when Loki helped free Surtur from his earthly prison, along with other adversaries of Asgard, all in a bid to trigger Ragnarok. The plan was for him to seize control and claim the throne as King of Asgard post-Ragnarok. Another noteworthy encounter came after a fierce battle against Odin, where Surtur struck a pact with Loki – he agreed to torch Yggdrasil, the World Tree, in exchange for… well, that’s a story best left untold!
How Surtur’s Season Pass Card Works
In the latest update for Marvel Snap’s War of the Nine Realms Season Pass, one of the new rewards is the Surtur card. This season pass contains a total of 100 tiers filled with rewards. From Level 51 onwards, Premium players can unlock forty-nine tiers of Season Cache rewards. Among the early perks are an Andrea Guardino designed Surtur and Odin Variant card, Thor Boosters, credits, and additional benefits. For free-to-play users, the main rewards will be Boosters, Credits, Gold, and the title of #1 All-Father.
Because Marvel Snap features a system where progress requires payment, Surtur – being a card exclusive to the season – can only be acquired via the Premium pathway. Once the season ends, Surtur will become accessible through the free-to-play collection track. Additionally, all players at Level 48 will receive a Surtur card back as a reward.
Surtur is the Level 1 reward for the War of the Nine Realms Season Pass.
The need to know when playing with or against Surtur is at its base, the card costs 3 Energy and yields 5 Power. After players play a card with 10 or more Power, Surtur will gain +3 Power. When paired with Skaar, whose ability reads ‘costs 2 less for each of your cards that has 10 or more Power,’ the two can form a lethal duo when climbing the ranked ladder. Furthermore, with the hot location, Great Portal, which adds a random card with 10 or more Power to a player’s hand, it’s no surprise that many players are reaching Infinite with Surtur in their primary deck.
