Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it feels like Marvel superheroes are popping up everywhere these days! They’re not just taking over our movies and TV shows, but they’re also starring in a variety of video game adventures. From large-scale online games like “Marvel’s Avengers” to kid-friendly titles such as “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes”, there’s plenty of fun for everyone. In the coming years, the Marvel action is set to expand even further with major releases headed by some of the big players. Unfortunately, it seems that one character hasn’t been invited to join the fun yet.
Fans who love Marvel are familiar with the main trio of the Avengers – Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. They’ve played key roles in shaping the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) throughout numerous tales. For now, Iron Man and Captain America are set to appear in video games, but it seems that Thor doesn’t have any projects lined up at the moment. Since a game featuring Thor could be amazing for fans, let’s hope he gets his chance to shine on the gaming scene soon!
Thor Deserves a Game of His Own, Just as Much as Cap and Iron Man
Captain America and Iron Man Are Getting Their Time to Shine
In the year ahead, gamers will embark on an entirely novel journey with Skydance New Media’s “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra”. This game promises to transport players back in time and let them assume roles alternately filled by Captain America and Black Panther as they endeavor to thwart Hydra at the zenith of World War Two. Notably, this won’t be just any Captain America, but rather Steve Rogers himself during a critical and influential phase of his existence. It remains to be seen if the game’s idea will prove successful, yet even in the event it falls short, it certainly places Captain America at the forefront.
If fans aren’t fond of Steve Rogers, it seems another significant Marvel game by Motive Studio is approaching. At present, details about this game are scant, but it’s clear that players will have the opportunity to command Iron Man in a fresh single-player storyline. Given the limited information, the game could be highly anticipated as it focuses on Tony Stark himself, a character rarely explored in gaming. With the success of the MCU, Tony Stark is one of Marvel’s most popular heroes at present, so there’s excitement about what this video game version will offer.
A Thor-Led Game Could Be Something Truly Special
Two out of the three main Marvel characters currently have their own video games, but Thor, for now, does not. Despite the possibility of a Thor game being in development without public announcement, it’s high time for one. With his captivating storyline and an array of allies at his disposal, such a game could deliver an exceptional experience for Marvel enthusiasts. Given that the other two characters are having their moment, it seems there’s no justification for neglecting Thor.
In a different phrasing: Although Thor appeared in Marvel’s Avengers, his most recent standalone video game was Thor: God of Thunder (released in 2011), which was linked to his first Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Since then, he has been the lead character in four more solo films and played a crucial role in every Avengers movie. Notably, among the main trio of characters, Thor is currently still active within the MCU (excluding Sam Wilson’s Captain America). Given this continuity, it seems fitting for Thor to take center stage in another video game. With a skilled development team and a compelling narrative, such a game could be extraordinary, blending Marvel’s mythical lore with fast-paced, electrifying combat.
Unlike the other two characters, Thor’s persona stems from mythology, being modeled after the genuine Norse deity. This connection extends to his foes like Loki who resonate strongly with fans and his unique abilities that set him apart from the rest of the Avengers. This rich background offers a developer an abundance of material to craft something extraordinary. Here’s hoping someone gets the opportunity to bring such a captivating portrayal to life.
