As a die-hard Marvel fan who has grown up with the MCU, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia hearing that Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Hawkeye in Avengers 5! From his debut in Thor back in 2011 to his latest appearance in Black Widow, Renner has been an integral part of the Marvel family. I remember watching the first Avengers movie and feeling the excitement when the original six were introduced – it’s incredible to think that nearly a decade has passed since then!

The upcoming film, dubbed as Avengers 5, is anticipated to showcase approximately 60 characters, with one of the founding Avengers, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, rumored to make an appearance.

In 2011, Jeremy Renner debuted in Marvel with a small, unnamed role in Thor. The next year, he made his first credited appearance as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in The Avengers. Renner, alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo, are famously known as the “Original Six” for their roles in the first Avengers film. Since then, Renner has portrayed Hawkeye across various MCU productions, including Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Black Widow (2021). He also starred in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. After Black Widow’s selfless sacrifice to save him and the world during their quest for the Soul Stone in Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye survived. Rumors suggest that Hawkeye may reappear in Avengers 5, as recent reports indicate the skilled archer will reunite with other superheroes once more.

As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share the news that Jeff Sneider, an esteemed film critic and entertainment reporter, hinted at Jeremy Renner’s return in the upcoming Avengers 5 and 6! He announced this exciting tidbit by posting a video of Hawkeye on his former platform, Twitter. In his caption, he playfully challenged those doubting Renner’s comeback, stating, “If you thought JEREMY RENNER would survive a near-death experience and not return for AVENGERS 5 to catch up with his old pals, think again.” Marvel Film News further confirmed Renner’s return in the next Avengers films. In early 2023, following a life-threatening snowplow accident, Renner expressed his desire to resume his role, telling Entertainment Tonight, “I’m going to be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys have been by my side throughout this recovery, so… if they want me, I’d be there.”

In a chat with Men’s Health magazine last June, Chris Hemsworth spoke about the bond he shares with his Marvel co-stars, which he referred to as a “brotherhood” or “sisterhood”. This close-knit group is the reason for his potential return in future projects, given that his character remains active. Hemsworth expressed that despite their on-screen antics and elaborate props, filming together was a deeply meaningful experience. He described it as having “a sense of connection” among them all. “I call it love,” he said, adding that he’d rather share life-changing experiences or even face challenging situations like jail time with Robert Downey Jr., or a car crash with Chris Evans, than to do something great on his own.

It is expected that “Avengers 5” will be filled with numerous superheroes. Yet, only a couple of the original Avengers might appear again. Given Black Widow and Iron Man’s deaths in “Endgame,” their return seems improbable. Captain America, now an elderly man, may choose not to participate in the next “Avengers” movie, along with Hulk, who appears to have departed without further story development post-“Endgame.” However, Hulk’s transformation into Professor Hulk and his peaceful resolution have concluded his character arc. Meanwhile, Thor could potentially rejoin the team from space with the Guardians.

Avengers 5 will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
