As a seasoned Marvel fan with over two decades of comic book collecting under my belt, I can confidently say that the news of the upcoming Marvel Zombies series has me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning! After years of waiting and countless false starts, it’s finally happening – and with the footage of Shang-Chi battling zombies, it looks like it will be worth every minute we’ve spent in anticipation.

Despite Marvel Animation being busy with numerous upcoming shows, there’s still no concrete launch date announced for the much-awaited Marvel Zombies series.

For quite some time, there have been rumors about the production of the “Marvel Zombies” series, causing speculation among fans as to whether it would ever come out. However, Marvel has recently eased fans’ concerns by confirming that the series is still in progress, even though they haven’t revealed a specific release date just yet.

At Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, updates were given about the eagerly anticipated Marvel Zombies animated series by Marvel Studios. Despite some fans being taken aback when it wasn’t listed among the projects due for release next year, Marvel eased concerns by offering a sneak peek. However, it seems that Marvel enthusiasts will have to exercise patience, as according to @HollywoodHandle on Twitter, the series won’t be out “for some time.”

Marvel Zombies Receives a Disappointing Update

Initially announced in 2021, the eagerly awaited “Marvel Zombies” series has left fans waiting without any updates for three years now. With high expectations set for this series as a significant addition to Marvel Animation’s upcoming roster, recent developments have been less than satisfactory. Marvel Studios recently unveiled plans to debut four animated shows within the next 18 months – “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, “What If…? Season 3”, “Eyes of Wakanda”, and “X-Men ’97” Season 2. Unfortunately, “Marvel Zombies” is not included in this immediate lineup, which is disappointing to many fans. However, Marvel Studios has provided a glimmer of hope by sharing footage of the series in development, suggesting that it is still in progress. Although a specific release date hasn’t been set yet, Marvel has confirmed that “Marvel Zombies” will eventually be released.

The captivating clips from the Marvel Zombies series depict popular figures such as Shang-Chi (portrayed by Simu Liu), Katy (Awkwafina), and Wenwu (Tony Leung) engaging in a struggle against the undead. Regrettably, you can’t find this footage online at the moment, but let me summarize it for you. In an edge-of-your-seat sequence, Shang-Chi is bitten by a zombie, leading to the virus coursing through his bloodstream. In a desperate attempt to save his child, Wenwu empowers Shang-Chi with the Ten Rings, leveraging their immense power to curtail the infection. Tragically, Wenwu meets his end, unable to shield himself. Shang-Chi and Katy manage an escape in a helicopter, leaving behind a dismal landscape. Five years later, we find ourselves in a world overrun by zombies, where Shang-Chi and Katy are now fighting against a motorcycle gang of Skrulls during a thrilling car chase. Armed with the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi defends himself against attackers. Amidst the pandemonium, the narrative promises to delve into the characters’ battles with challenging choices and maintain a humorous tone. It’s uncertain if the live-action actors will lend their voices for the series as well.

The upcoming series, titled “Marvel Zombies,” is planned as a four-episode follow-up to the fifth episode of Season 1 from the show “What If…?”. It will continue the tale of Marvel characters who miraculously survived an initial zombie apocalypse. In this alternate universe, superheroes have been transformed into zombies due to a virus traced back to the Quantum Realm. This series is expected to deviate from conventional Marvel storylines, featuring horror themes and a gloomier atmosphere. Fans can look forward to a gritty, suspenseful, and action-packed plotline with potentially explicit content. Although the specific launch date remains undisclosed, it’s predicted that “Marvel Zombies” will debut on Disney Plus no later than early 2026.
