As a dedicated fan who’s spent countless hours swinging through the concrete jungle of New York City in both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales, I can’t help but feel that Insomniac Games could take the immersive experience to new heights with just a few tweaks.
In the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, conversations between characters are frequently handled through earpiece communications, a feature commonly found in many modern games. This method is used to fill quiet moments when characters aren’t physically close to each other. For instance, ordinary phone calls occur between characters when Peter Parker or Miles Morales are not in their costumes. Additionally, even when they are in costume, calls can be received through their unseen communications system while swinging or gliding through the open world.
In Marvel’s Spider-Man, the game is engaging enough because it enables characters to interact freely with each other, making it appear as though they can instantly contact someone like Peter, just as Dr. Michaels does in the game.
In the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, I find the text messages between characters to be a captivating element that really brings the game to life. It’s cool how Insomniac presents these messages as pop-ups on-screen for us players to read. Although it might not be at the top of their list for Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, I can only imagine how awesome it would be if they added a feature to the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app that allowed for text messaging. Imagine stumbling upon text logs that give us insights into ongoing conversations in the Spider-Men’s lives – now that would add some depth and lore to the game!
Marvel’s Spider-Man’s FNSM App Should Behave a Little Bit More Like an Actual Phone
The “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” app in both Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and its sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, plays a crucial role. It helps players decide which tasks, crimes, or side quests to engage with. In the second game, the app is also where you can switch between the different Spider-Men that you are controlling.
Essentially, the FNSM app serves to streamline gameplay by providing accessible activities or missions without the need for map scanning or aimless searching. As it becomes more focused on gameplay, however, it may lose some of the charm it initially had when introduced in Miles Morales by Insomniac. If the FNSF app incorporated text messaging or calling functionality, it could deepen character relationships beyond what is conveyed through in-game dialogue.
Texting or calling Mary Jane Watson might be an option for Peter. Having their past messages easily accessible would significantly help create the impression that they’ve had numerous conversations beforehand, making it feel more like a continuation rather than a new interaction.
Additionally, it’s great to consider a feature where text message logs are updated for each character when they aren’t currently in use. However, implementing this messaging system could be challenging due to the potential excess of dialogue for players to sift through. Moreover, making it optional within the FNSM app might not guarantee that all users would access it. Nevertheless, enhancing the FNSM app beyond a simple quest log and allowing users to revisit past character interactions could significantly improve immersion.
Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Social Feed Could Be More Valuable Than Ever
In the games Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, there is a social media-like feature called a social feed. This isn’t crucial to gameplay, but it offers an engaging way to show how Spider-Man interacts with New York City. Players can see what citizens are talking about within this virtual cityscape.
Most of the comments players will scroll through are intentionally silly, such as a thread debating whether a burrito is a sandwich. Still, the social feed is definitely a feature that Miles and his best friend Ganke Lee would realistically tap into.
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, if there was a social media feed, it would be fascinating to explore the citizens’ opinions about Spider-Man, as well as their experiences of the extraordinary events they encounter daily. Given that criminal activity keeps Spider-Men busy in almost every minute of gameplay, New York City is seldom quiet or predictable. A social media platform could serve as an ideal means for expressing public sentiments and concerns.
