The character known as “Marvel’s Wolverine” was initially unveiled during the PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, along with “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2”. However, unlike “Spider-Man 2”, which has been available for more than a year, there’s no indication yet of when we can expect to see “Wolverine”. There hasn’t been any recent news about the game from developers Insomniac or Sony since the initial announcement in 2021. So far, no details on the storyline, gameplay, or even sneak peeks behind the scenes have been shared.
It’s not necessarily a disadvantage that Insomniac is taking its time. After all, there’s immense pressure to create a stellar superhero game, especially one focused on one of Marvel’s most cherished characters. Insomniac should take whatever time is required to meet such high expectations. Although this could prolong the wait, it might also lead to additional costumes for the beloved Mutant character, making the wait worthwhile for fans.
Wolverine’s Longer Development Paves The Way for More Costumes
A Deadpool and Wolverine Skin Is a Must-Have for Marvel’s Wolverine
Once again, Deadpool and Wolverine’s blockbuster film outing in 2024 proved to be another box office smash, earning an impressive $1.3 billion and ranking second only to Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Despite some varied critical opinions, the movie provided a significant boost to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, delighting fans with numerous fan-favorite elements, particularly the comeback of Hugh Jackman as one of the film’s titular Mutants.
Once more, Jackman delivered an outstanding portrayal as Wolverine, leaving audiences awestruck. The film’s R-rating allowed for some of the most thrilling Wolverine action scenes ever filmed on screen. Moreover, the costume design for Deadpool and Wolverine, crafted by Graham Churchyard and Mayes C. Rubeo, was exceptional, faithfully representing the iconic yellow and blue suit in a convincing manner.
Regardless of individual preferences about the film’s script, storyline, or other aspects, it’s undeniable that the portrayal of Logan in the Deadpool and Wolverine movie is exceptionally memorable, making it a strong candidate for inclusion as an alternative costume in Marvel’s Wolverine.
An Ultimate Wolverine Costume Would Be Great to See in Marvel’s Wolverine
Additionally, aside from Deadpool and Wolverine’s blue-and-yellow attire, other costumes once thought unlikely to feature in Marvel’s Wolverine may now have a chance, given the game’s release timing. One such costume is inspired by the ongoing “Ultimate Wolverine” comic series.
In the reimagined Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160), which was altered due to The Maker’s interference during “Ultimate Invasion,” the storyline “Ultimate Wolverine” revolves around a different incarnation of Logan who serves under the Rasputin family, functioning as their controlled Winter Soldier. In this updated version, Wolverine dons a new outfit that combines the traditional brown suit with the metallic mask reminiscent of the Winter Soldier’s appearance.
It would be exciting if this costume could appear in the upcoming “Marvel’s Wolverine” game, ideally as part of a variety of alternate costumes inspired by the Mutant’s extensive comic book history, featuring both iconic old designs and newer versions too.
