Summary
- Fans eagerly await Marvel’s Wolverine release news, but Insomniac is tight-lipped.
- Insomniac Games emphasizes they will share Wolverine updates when ready.
- Sony may delay Wolverine promotions until after other game releases.
Four years have passed since Sony and Insomniac Games unveiled Marvel’s Wolverine project. Beyond the initial announcement, there has been no further word from the studio regarding the game. We still don’t know when it will be released, or even see an official trailer, and it appears that this situation may continue for some time.
It’s understandable that some enthusiastic fans, eagerly awaiting the game, have become somewhat disgruntled, and they haven’t been hesitant to express their feelings to Insomniac.
Marvel’s Wolverine Will Be Revealed When Insomniac Is Good And Ready

User “Jogurt” playfully criticized Insomniac Games’ announcement of a new Marvel’s Spider-Man patch for PC on Twitter, saying, “No updates for PS5. No word on Wolverine. Choosing to ignore everyone. What an exceptional team!
As a dedicated fan, I must say that unlike many studio social accounts flooded with trolls or inquiries, the official Insomniac Games Twitter/X account stands out. They responded to me, “We’re diligently working on Marvel’s Wolverine for PS5. Rest assured, we will reveal news about the game when *we feel* it’s the right time.” This commitment to sharing updates at their own pace is truly refreshing.
Additionally, the statement clarified that not every request can be acted upon immediately due to factors such as time constraints, resource availability, and approval to disclose information.
Yep, Jogurt just got cooked.
Essentially, Insomniac Games can’t just freely share information about Marvel’s Wolverine. Any updates they wish to disclose need to first be approved by both their own management team as well as Sony, who is not only the boss but also the game’s publisher.
Apart from the initial reveal, the main sources of information about Marvel’s Wolverine have been limited to data leaks. These leaks occurred following a significant hack on Insomniac Games in December 2021, which was caused by ransomware. This breach released a large amount of game-related data, financial details, and even preliminary gameplay footage of Marvel’s Wolverine.
Is it possible that we’ll get updates on the game this year? Given that Sony is planning to launch Death Stranding 2: On the Beach in June and Ghost of Yotei at some point this year, it seems likely that any promotional efforts for Marvel’s Wolverine will occur after these games have been released, as Sony might not want to overshadow them.
It seems likely that we might witness a presentation for Marvel’s Wolverine, possibly featuring a trailer or even a release date, either by the end of this year or at The Game Awards. Given that it’s been five years since any substantial update on the game has been released, I’m eagerly anticipating some new footage or screenshots.
This extended period without a new game from Insomniac Games could potentially last up to three years if they were to release Wolverine as late as 2026. Normally, the studio tends to put out a game every one or two years, but with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming out in 2023 and a possible 2025 release for Wolverine appearing doubtful, there could be an extended gap in their production schedule.
