Masashi Kishimoto Sets Up The Return Of Baryon Mode In Boruto

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

The Boruto series has showcased many impressive abilities, but Baryon Mode stands out as particularly unique. Naruto Uzumaki used this power during his intense battle with Isshiki – a fight that pushed him to his absolute limit. Essentially, Baryon Mode works by combining Naruto and Kurama’s chakra to create a completely new type of energy. This allowed them to match and ultimately overcome Isshiki’s strength, leading to victory.

Sadly, Kurama’s death meant the end of Baryon Mode, which was the most powerful technique seen in the Boruto series so far. However, with Kurama recently returning and gaining a new ability alongside Himawari Uzumaki, Baryon Mode might be possible again. Fans are very excited to see if it will reappear.

Kurama Has Returned With Himawari Uzumaki In Boruto

After Kurama’s apparent death fighting Isshiki Otsutsuki, fans thought he was gone for good. His quick return surprised everyone, but the biggest shock was who he came back with – not Naruto, but Naruto’s daughter, Himawari. This was a huge twist, especially since Kurama didn’t bond with a new host, which is what most people predicted.

You’re unlike anyone I’ve ever met. You’re not just a regular ninja, and you’re even different from those who contain the power of the tailed beasts. You’re a human, but in some ways, you remind me of Jura and myself. — Kurama speaking to Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto

Surprisingly, Kurama gained a unique ability that allows him to exist as a human being, specifically through Himawari.

Kurama And Himawari Are One Entity

Throughout the Boruto series, it’s become evident that Kurama and Himawari are essentially the same being. Unlike Naruto, who hosted a Tailed Beast, Himawari is the Tailed Beast incarnate, similar to Jura. This means she doesn’t have the same limitations as a Jinchuriki and possesses seemingly boundless potential.

This indicates that Himawari connects with Kurama more effectively than anyone else, resulting in minimal chakra loss and maximum power. Unlike Naruto, who faced limitations as a Jinchuriki, Himawari doesn’t seem to have those same restrictions.

Baryon Mode’s Return Is A Real Possibility Due To Kurama’s New Power

Kurama’s return strongly suggests Baryon Mode will be back in the Boruto series. What’s particularly exciting is that, with Kurama and Himawari’s new abilities, it might be used more effectively. When Naruto used Baryon Mode, a major issue was wasted chakra due to uncontrolled movements, and this new version could potentially solve that problem.

This power is incredible – it should be far stronger than anything he possesses. However, there’s a serious downside. It works by consuming our life force. Because our chakra is linked, when this power is used on him, it also drains his lifespan. That’s what makes Baryon Mode so unique and dangerous. — Kurama explaining Baryon Mode to Naruto Uzumaki.

Kurama ultimately died because he exhausted his energy through inefficient chakra usage. If Kurama and Himawari were better synchronized, they would waste less energy and be able to generate more power. This means they could use their abilities without putting Kurama at risk of dying.

It’s not enough to simply activate Baryon Mode and instantly become powerful. Himawari still needs to train both her mind and body to truly get stronger.

Honestly, what’s so cool about her story is that it opens the door for Kishimoto to bring Baryon Mode back – and do it even better this time! I think a lot of us would be absolutely thrilled to see that happen.

Now, it’s Naruto’s daughter who possesses this ability, and she’s become a fan favorite. Many viewers are also anticipating Naruto receiving his own power boost soon, which has them looking forward to what’s next.

I’m so excited about Boruto: Two Blue Vortex! It’s the continuation of the original Boruto series, with Mikio Ikemoto writing and Masashi Kishimoto overseeing everything. The story picks up three years after the crazy events of the Omnipotence arc, and it’s all about Boruto Uzumaki trying to protect the world. Things are complicated, though, because he’s also dealing with his brother, Kawaki. The latest chapter, number 29, is coming out on December 18, 2025, at 10 AM EST / 3 PM UTC! And the best part is, you can read it officially for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app – that’s where I’ll be!
