As a die-hard Mass Effect fan, I recently stumbled upon some exciting news that left me thrilled – it appears that the iconic Paragon and Renegade morality system from the earlier games could make a comeback in the upcoming title! While specifics about BioWare’s next Mass Effect installment remain scarce, the return of these two classic moral alignments is a welcome sign for many loyal fans like me.
As a devoted Mass Effect fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the upcoming title. So far, all we’ve got are tantalizing glimpses and hints from the developers, with the team giving us more solid details than any actual visuals BioWare has shared. Recently, one of BioWare’s executive producers suggested that before diving into the next Mass Effect game, we might be tasked with revisiting a classic Mass Effect DLC, though it’s still unclear when exactly this will happen.
In a recent post, user kalaelizabeth noticed that the fold patterns on artwork for the upcoming ‘Mass Effect’ game resemble the Paragon logo. Although this might seem far-fetched at first glance, comparing the two images confirms their observation. BioWare’s Michael Gamble acknowledged the observation with a cryptic comment, hinting that we should wait and see what’s to come. While Gamble didn’t provide a clear answer, his response certainly wasn’t a denial. With Paragon and Renegade being essential elements of ‘Mass Effect’, this could be an exciting sign that the series is preparing for a return in the future.
Official Mass Effect Art Has Hints Towards Paragon and Renegade Return
In the original Mass Effect trilogy, the Paragon and Renegade morality system played a significant role in creating some of the series’ most impactful scenes. As players progressed through their game, they accumulated Paragon and Renegade points that determined whether their character was perceived as ‘good’ or ‘evil’, allowing them to access certain actions based on their moral alignment. Despite being a two-tier system, Mass Effect fully exploited the duality of these morals, contributing significantly to why the trilogy is often praised for its storyline where choices really matter.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been fully developed. With BioWare likely shifting their focus towards Mass Effect, a game initially announced in 2020, I eagerly await more details about the project. Although we’ve only received small glimpses each year during N7 Day (November 7), last year was relatively quiet for BioWare due to the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I sincerely hope they share something more substantial this year, considering the extended wait we’ve had so far.
