BioWare and EA have confirmed that the Mass Effect series coming to Amazon won’t retell the story of Commander Shepherd. Instead, it will be a brand new story that takes place after the events of Mass Effect 3.
As a huge Mass Effect fan, I’ve always thought the series was the gold standard for storytelling in games – everyone should really play it! While the third game was decent, the first two are still amazing RPGs, even after all this time. After Andromeda didn’t quite hit the mark, I was so excited to hear Amazon was making a Mass Effect TV show for Prime Video last year. And now, we’re getting some hints about where they’re taking the story, and honestly, it sounds really intriguing!
Mass Effect TV Show Set After The Original Trilogy

To celebrate N7 Day, which honors the USS Normandy from the Mass Effect games, a new blog post appeared on the official Mass Effect website. Series executive producer Mike Gamble discussed the future of the franchise. Although there were no new details about the next Mass Effect game beyond the fact that it’s still being made, the upcoming Amazon TV show was a topic of conversation. In the blog post, he mentioned,
According to a recent blog post, the writers are making excellent progress. They have a clear understanding of how the show will fit into the established Mass Effect storyline and how it connects to the upcoming new game. The series will tell a completely new story within the Mass Effect universe, taking place after the events of the original trilogy. Importantly, it won’t simply retell Commander Shepard’s adventure – that story belongs to the players.
According to Gamble, the new show is currently being written and, surprisingly, won’t be based on the first three Mass Effect games. This likely means we won’t see Commander Shepard or the Normandy crew. However, the story will still take place sometime after the events of Mass Effect 3, even though it’s a completely new tale.
It’s currently unclear which ending will be considered official, but it will be fascinating to see how the story unfolds. Given that Mass Effect is a space opera, it’s a great fit for a show similar to Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek. As a fan, I’m really looking forward to seeing what the new adventure brings.
