Massive Morrowind mod 22 years in the making is getting its “biggest expansion” ever, and after Oblivion Remastered I think I’ll have my hands full until Elder Scrolls 6

Preparing for an exciting development, the massive Morrowind mod titled Tamriel Rebuilt is on the verge of its largest overhaul yet! It’s hard to believe, but with this update and the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, I foresee my gaming time being quite occupied until the arrival of The Elder Scrolls 6.

You might be familiar with Tamriel Rebuilt already, given it’s been under development for over two decades. Cramming all that it offers – additions, expansions, and updates – into a concise, comprehensive explanation would be quite challenging. In essence, the project aims to transform the entire Morrowind province in-game, providing a much larger area to explore compared to the narrow slice offered in The Elder Scrolls 3.

Examples such as Old Ebonheart, Port Telvannis, Firewatch, and Necrom, initially not accessible in the original Morrowind game, are now incorporated into the playable map due to Tamriel Rebuilt. The creators at TamrielRebuiltTeam boast that their modified version of Morrowind features a larger playable landmass than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The upcoming modification update, named Grasping Fortune, marketed as “the most extensive expansion from Tamriel Rebuilt to date,” primarily focuses on the Hlaalu capital of Narsis. The developers claim that it is one of Morrowind’s largest cities and could potentially be the largest fully-realized, custom-made city in any Elder Scrolls game ever created.

According to the mod creator known as Sultan of Rum, Narsis has been a highly sought-after project for Tamriel Rebuilt since 2004, when an early level designer named Prometheus initially designed a grand version of it. Over two decades, the city encountered numerous technical and conceptual challenges, resulting in three complete redesigns. However, it’s now making good progress towards its release.

Feel free to delve into the detailed account of Narsis’ past, as shared in the latest Grasping Winds official update. This information is particularly captivating for enthusiasts of The Elder Scrolls lore. You can find it here.

In summary, the Grasping Winds expansion offers over 140 new dungeons for looting and around 270 fresh quests. It releases on May 1st, leaving me insufficient time to complete my Oblivion Remastered gameplay, yet it’s a pleasant predicament.
