The creators of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Massive Entertainment, have announced that the upcoming DLC for the game will be released at a later date. First launched in 2019, The Division 2 is an ongoing service game with a dedicated and passionate fanbase who have stayed loyal to it even years after its release.
As a gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the next chapter in my survival journey through a post-pandemic world. Just like before, it’s the deadly Dollar Flu that’s taken center stage, this time leading me to explore Washington DC and its iconic landmarks. Massive Entertainment has already dropped three captivating episodic DLC for The Division 2 – DC Outskirts: Expedition, Pentagon: The Last Castle, and Coney Island: The Hunt – along with a highly praised expansion pack, Warlords of New York, in the year 2020. Now, I can’t wait to see where this gripping narrative takes me next!
As a dedicated gamer, I was thrilled back in June 2024 when Massive Entertainment unveiled that the finale of The Division 2’s Year 6 would introduce a new story expansion, taking us back to the original game’s setting – Brooklyn, New York. Given that this is where our post-apocalyptic journey first began, it’s no surprise that fans like me were buzzing with anticipation. Unfortunately, on January 28, 2025, Massive announced that this DLC would not be released as planned in Year 6.
Division 2 Fans Have to Wait a Bit More for New York DLC
According to a tweet from Massive, the New York DLC for The Division 2 has been postponed so they can perfect it and offer players an optimal experience. Although some fans are disheartened, many acknowledge the studio’s decision and commend them for not rushing the project. However, others argue that it’s been almost four years since substantial content was added to The Division 2, and some suggest that Massive should focus on The Division 3, which Ubisoft confirmed will be developed starting in September 2023.
2020 saw the addition of seasons in The Division 2 with the release of Warlords of New York, and since then, the developers have consistently updated the game. While there may not be new content in the traditional sense, each season introduces new weapons, talents, and gear, as well as gameplay modifiers to shake up the meta and encourage various playstyles. Manhunts received a significant makeover with the introduction of Year 6, offering players a fresh Mission, a tougher difficulty level, and more frequent activities to engage in. However, following the cancellation of The Division Heartland in 2024, some enthusiasts of the series are not entirely satisfied with just The Division Resurgence on the horizon. Fingers crossed that the wait for The Division 2 DLC won’t stretch too long.
