Mastering the art of stealthy burglary in “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion” largely revolves around mastering the skill of lock-picking. For beginners, lock-picking in Oblivion may seem complex due to its intricate system, but for those who aspire to be cunning thieves, learning to pick locks proficiently is crucial, as it allows you to bypass barriers and access valuable loot without the risk of breaking your lockpicks.
In the game ‘Oblivion’, knowing how to unlock secure chests and doors using lockpicks is crucial, as these items are typically out of reach for characters without the appropriate key or clearance. This skill will help players gain recognition from the Thieves Guild and the Gray Fox, who may have valuable information or quests.
How to Lockpick in Oblivion Remastered
As a keen gamer, when I encounter a sealed door or treasure chest, I’ll get the chance to engage in an exciting lockpicking minigame. During this game screen, I can maneuver my lockpick horizontally to switch among the tumblers I want to manipulate. The direction the tip of the lockpick points will indicate which tumbler I’m currently working on, helping me keep track of my progress.
Instead of moving the lockpick vertically to feel when the tumbler is pressing against the springs, players should focus on determining the rate at which the tumbler sinks in before it pops back up.
In the game Oblivion Remastered , lockpicking requires a great deal of patience. To successfully pick locks, players must carefully observe the tumbler’s springs. The optimal moment to press X/Left-Click is when the final spring has been pushed up by the tumbler as it rises. Timing your click too early or too late could cause the lockpick to break. If the tumbler moves too swiftly, players can simply allow it to fall and try again without damaging the lockpick. The best way to set a tumbler is to keep pushing it up until it starts to rise slowly. When it ascends gradually, it suggests that it will remain in an elevated position before descending slowly. This gives players a bit more leeway to click it into place.
Sometimes, it might be simpler to unlock a lock by listening for sounds instead of using physical manipulation. When you press upward on the tumblers, you’ll hear a distinct clicking noise. If the tumbler moves quickly, this sound will be rapid, while if it moves slowly, you’ll hear a “click-click” sound, with the second click being much higher-pitched. Continue to lift the tumbler upward, but interact with it only when you hear that high-pitched click.
Players can increase their lockpick ability through the Security Skill.
How to Get Lockpicks in Oblivion Remastered
As a fan, I’d like to share a helpful tip: If you find yourself in need of more lockpicks, simply head towards Shady Sam, a fellow residing near the Elven Gardens District outside the Imperial City’s walls. He’s often found loitering around the city walls, so follow them in a clockwise direction to spot him easily.
Lockpicks can also be found by looting various bandits and goblins, but they’re more conveniently bought from either Shady Sam or thieves’ guild fences. However, only members of the Thieves Guild can access these fences and learn their whereabouts to make such purchases.
