Master the Adamantoise: Tips to Conquer Final Fantasy 15’s Toughest Boss!

In the course of Final Fantasy 15, players encounter numerous colossal beasts during both the primary quests and optional hunts. For those who wish to delve deeper into the game post-storyline and re-explore the expansive open world, you’ll come across a few hidden bosses for battle, one of which is the Adamantoise.

Although it’s not the toughest battle in the game, it boasts an exceptionally high health pool, making it a time-consuming challenge for players to conquer. Here are some suggestions on how to prepare and strategize for defeating this boss, hopefully reducing the time needed to emerge victorious.

Prepare Ahead of Time

It’s obvious but crucial, so we’re emphasizing it: Ensure you have a good supply of high-potions, elixirs, and mega phoenixes. Additionally, aim for a character level as close to 99 as possible. This will boost both your offensive and defensive capabilities significantly, potentially shortening the battle by nearly an hour.

As a gamer, I personally prioritize Attack when it comes to picking outfits and accessories for my gaming crew. Since I always carry plenty of healing potions, I don’t need an overwhelmingly high HP (Health Points) bar because I can take the time to heal after being attacked. While my team members are undeniably helpful, I make sure to equip my main character, Noctis, with the best gear possible to boost his damage output to the max!

Invest AP in Warp Strike Powers

Utilizing Warp Strike repeatedly in succession, particularly while airborne, is undoubtedly the most efficient strategy for defeating Adamantoise. Although it has a weakness towards Ice spells, its enormous Health Pool makes even multiple casts of Blizzaga only minimally impactful, and the high cost-inefficiency of employing such magic throughout an entire battle due to the cooldown on magical abilities is significant. Consequently, possessing the Warp Strike ability, which ensures a critical hit when used from close range while also reducing the MP cost of phasing, becomes crucial.

It’s In The Eyes

Regardless if you opt for Wait Mode or Active Mode, focusing your attacks on specific areas of Adamantoise not only hastens the battle but also inflicts maximum harm. Specifically, targeting Adamantoise’s eyes with Warp Strike frequently causes 9,999 damage and places Noctis near its head, enabling him to rapidly execute multiple Warp Strikes. When used in conjunction with the close-range critical bonus ability, these Warp Strikes inflict substantial damage and keep Noctis shielded from Adamantoise’s ground assaults for an extended duration.

Use Warp Points & Regroup

Aim for the monster’s eye with your Warp Strike, it’ll deal maximum damage, but remember, due to its enormous size, falling from great heights could cause harm. After a few successful Warp Strikes, adjust your camera view slightly to the right or left of its head because there are two Warp Points you can leap to, thereby avoiding any fall damage. Jumping at these spots also ensures an immediate MP recovery.

In addition to Ignis, the Technique “Regroup” is proving particularly useful in this battle. Activating “Regroup” during a fall will transport you safely to Ignis, sparing you from fall damage. Furthermore, “Regroup” not only transports you but also restores the health of your entire team, allowing you to conserve valuable items during this lengthy and arduous fight.

Use Your Summon When Available, But Don’t Count On It

In the heat of battle within Final Fantasy 15, Noctis can unexpectedly gain access to one of his summon abilities. Taking advantage of these free damage opportunities is advisable. However, rather than using it immediately, consider saving the summon until you sense fatigue or a decline in your focus during combat. The lengthy summon cinematic that follows provides an ideal moment to catch your breath and prepare for resuming the fight when it restarts. Although it might seem unusual, battles like Adamantoise are more about endurance, precision, and concentration rather than raw combat skill.

Switch Party Members & Attack From The Side

With AP, you gain the option to control your team members, provided they have their respective DLC. For example, Ignis excels in dishing out high damage when linking attacks against an opponent. Scattered around the Adamantoise are fin-like projections on the ground, ripe for attack. While these strikes might not deal as much harm, they allow you to string together lengthy combos that can surpass your warp-strike damage in intensity.

Whenever the Adamantoise’s body glows, its fins propel forward simultaneously, potentially striking your entire team. Therefore, keep a close eye on these attacks and administer healing as necessary to stay safe.
