Masters of Albion Finally Has a Release Date

The upcoming ‘God game’ Masters of Albion, created by the pioneer of the genre, Peter Molyneux, will launch on April 22, 2026. Originally revealed in August 2024 during Gamescom, Molyneux has stated this will be his final video game project.

Peter Molyneux, a game designer, programmer, and producer from England, began his career in 1984 with a game appropriately named The Entrepreneur. Although the game wasn’t commercially successful, Molyneux went on to co-found Bullfrog Productions with Les Edgar. Together, they created innovative titles like Populous – considered the first ‘God game’ – as well as popular games such as Theme Park, Syndicate, and Dungeon Keeper.

Bullfrog Productions became part of EA UK in 2004, and Peter Molyneux left to help start Lionhead Studios. At Lionhead, he developed the innovative game Black & White, building on the ‘God game’ genre, and the popular action role-playing series Fable. Molyneux departed Lionhead in 2012 after finishing Fable: The Journey and then founded 22cans, where he continues to work.

Masters of Albion Gets an April 22, 2026 Release Date

Labeled as a fresh take on the classic ‘God Game’ by its creator, Masters of Albion lets you guide and shape a village with a magical hand. You can build structures, manage villagers, and fight off dangerous creatures. The game also lets you directly control villagers, animals, and heroes, switching to a third-person view for exploration and battles.

A new trailer for Masters of Albion revealed its release date: April 22, 2026. The god game will first be available on PC through Steam, with plans for console versions later on. The trailer specifies a 6pm BST launch time on April 22nd, which translates to 12pm Eastern Time and 10am Pacific Time for players in North America.

The latest trailer offered fans a clear view of how Masters of Albion is played. The game revolves around two main phases: daytime and nighttime. During the day, players focus on building and expanding their town, exploring the surrounding world, and completing tasks for their citizens. At night, the focus shifts to defense, as players must protect their town from undead creatures using recruited heroes, traps, and the environment to their advantage.

When Masters of Albion was announced in August 2024, Peter Molyneux spoke with Edge magazine (as reported by PCGamer). During the interview, he addressed his well-known tendency to make promises he couldn’t keep before launching a game, and surprisingly declared that Masters of Albion would be his last. Here’s how he put it:

Masters of Albion feels like a chance to prove myself again, but it will also be my final game. At 66, I’m putting in as much effort as ever, but I simply don’t have the energy to keep creating games like this.

Look, a lot of us are side-eyeing this whole thing, wondering if this is just another marketing trick by the developer, kinda like what happened with Fable back in the day. But honestly, there’s a real chance Masters of Albion might be their last game. If that’s true, the pressure is on for it to actually live up to the hype and be the groundbreaking god game they’re promising. I’m really hoping it delivers!
