McDonald's Has Super Mario Toys Again, But Only in One Region

Highlights

  • The new Super Mario Happy Meal toys are exclusive to Japan, showcasing Universal Studios Japan attractions.
  • Each toy in the collection represents different experiences from Super Nintendo Land, such as Princess Peach’s castle and Mario Kart.
  • Will these exclusive toys ever make it overseas? Keep an eye out for a possible debut in 2025 with Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe park opening.

As a longtime gamer and theme park enthusiast, I’m thrilled to hear about McDonald’s latest collaboration with Nintendo for Super Mario Happy Meal toys – especially since they’re exclusively available in Japan! The last time we had such an exciting collectible was during the holiday season of 2022 when they released Super Mario Bros. Movie toys, but these new ones take it to another level.

Following the successful partnership with Happy Meal and Sanrio in July, McDonald’s announces the introduction of a new toy line based on Super Mario in Japan. This marks the first appearance of Super Mario Happy Meal toys in nearly two years.

As a gamer, I can’t help but get excited whenever my favorite video game characters collaborate with brands I love! Remember when Super Mario teamed up with McDonald’s during the winter holidays of 2022 to promote the upcoming “Super Mario Bros. Movie”? That was a treat! But here’s what sets this new Happy Meal collaboration apart: instead of promoting a movie, it’s all about Universal Studio Japan’s latest expansion and the new attractions based on Super Mario. As a theme park enthusiast and gamer, this is an exclusive collectible I can’t miss out on!

Based on Sora News reports, six unique Happy Meal toys will be available only in Japan. These toys are inspired by Super Nintendo Land and represent various attractions at Universal Studios Japan. Donkey Kong is depicted as a miniature launch barrel from the Mine-Cart Madness roller coaster, while Chef Toad represents Kinopio’s Cafe. Even the iconic warp pipe entrance to the land has been turned into a toy as part of this exciting collaboration.

As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: These toys come in all sorts of shapes and designs, each one unique with an embedded Super Nintendo World logo. In my Happy Meal collection, there are six toys that boast this cool feature.

  • A Replica of the Super Mario 64 Princess Peach’s castle
  • A Yoshi bracelet
  • The iconic Kart from the Mario Kart franchise
  • Donkey Kong in a minecart, attached to a barrel
  • Chef Toad
  • Warp Pipe replica with a Luigi decal

As a passionate fan, I’d describe it this way: In the magical world of Super Nintendo, each toy brings unique adventures to life. When I enter the themed land, Princess Peach’s castle welcomes me with open doors, and pressing a button on its toy reveals enchanting character art. The Yoshi bracelet takes me on a leisurely journey, just like the dark ride, as I sort Yoshi eggs into their colorful slots. And nothing beats the thrill of the Mario Kart toy race! With a collectible Mario figurine and an authentic sticker set, I customize my Kart, ready to take on challenges in true representation of the iconic ride, Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge. Even better, my toy comes with a Green Shell token that adds an element of surprise as I launch it from the front!

The minecart for Donkey Kong is designed to be released from a barrel, giving a hint of the thrills awaiting visitors when the roller coaster opens around 2024. Chef Toad’s toy is modeled after a kendama, featuring a mushroom-shaped ring that can attach to various parts of Toad for playful interaction. The Warp Pipe replica is an entranceway into Princess Peach’s castle area in the park, adorned with a Luigi decal and inviting those carrying this toy to peek through its lens to catch glimpses of Super Nintendo World’s offerings, including character encounters and sneak peeks at future attractions.

Will These Toys Ever Come Overseas?

As a longtime fan of both Universal Studios and Nintendo, I’m always keeping an eye out for exciting new developments in the theme park world. Recently, I’ve heard some intriguing rumors about the potential release of popular Japanese Nintendo-themed toys in regions outside of Asia.
