Okay, so this is pretty cool – McDonald’s is teaming up with Street Fighter! They’re making three sandwiches inspired by the characters, which as a gamer, I think is awesome. But here’s the bummer: right now, it looks like the promotion is only happening in Japan. So, unless I win a trip over there, I might not get to try them, and that’s a little disappointing.
McDonald’s often partners with video games in both Japan and Western countries, releasing special menu items like sandwiches and drinks, and collectible Happy Meal toys based on popular games such as *Minecraft*, *Pokemon*, and *Genshin Impact*. While many of these promotions happen in multiple places, some are only available in certain countries or regions.
McDonald’s Japan Introduces Three Street Fighter Menu Items
Starting October 22nd, Street Fighter fans can enjoy new menu items at McDonald’s inspired by the iconic fighting game. A fun video revealed the additions, featuring Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li battling opponents that represent the new food. Ryu’s burger features burnt-garlic teriyaki, egg, and mayo, while Chun-Li gets a sweet and sour fried chicken burger, and Ken enjoys the Torichi triple cheeseburger.
The promotional videos for this collaboration cleverly recreate the look and feel of the classic *Street Fighter 2* game. Characters battle each other using attacks themed around food, all while fighting in front of McDonald’s restaurants. These attacks visually combine to represent the actual menu items being offered – for example, Akuma throws garlic at Ryu, who responds with an egg burger, mirroring a new McDonald’s combination meal. The videos are also full of fun references to other *Street Fighter* characters enjoying McDonald’s food. McDonald’s hasn’t said how long this promotion will run, so fans in Japan should visit soon to experience it.

McDonald’s is known for successful game partnerships, and their new collaboration with *Street Fighter* aims to avoid issues from recent promotions. Last month, McDonald’s had to apologize to *Pokémon* fans because promotional cards sold out quickly, largely due to resellers buying the meals just for the cards and discarding the food, which caused a lot of waste. This time, the *Street Fighter* burgers don’t include any collectible items, so hopefully, people will only buy them if they actually want to eat the food.
