As a seasoned film enthusiast with decades of comic book movies under my belt, I must say that the rumors swirling about Chris Evans potentially reprising his role as Captain America but this time as a Hydra-affiliated baddie in Avengers: Doomsday has left me utterly intrigued. If these whispers are true, it would be an exhilarating twist that would undoubtedly shake up the MCU.
As we edge nearer to 2025, the anticipation among Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiasts is mounting significantly. Not only have numerous tales been verified, but there are also strong hints at many more to come. If fans thought the MCU was flipped on its head with series like Loki and films such as Deadpool and Wolverine, then they’re in for some truly unexpected twists if even a fraction of the rumored developments become reality.
There’s been a buzz online suggesting that Chris Evans could be collaborating with Robert Downey Jr. on the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday“. If this comes to pass, it remains unclear how Evans will re-enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some speculate that Evans might reprise his role as Captain America, but this wouldn’t be the beloved character fans are accustomed to. Instead, he may portray a sinister version of Captain America this time around. In the comics, there exists an alternate universe Steve Rogers who was brainwashed by Hydra at a young age and eventually works as a secret agent for the government, infiltrating the criminal organization linked to the Nazis.
Hydra-Fied Captain America
One Instagram user with the handle arifnity_, shared some artwork inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, depicting a hypothetical, Hydra-allied Captain America in full gear. In an intriguing twist, the post also featured Robert Downey Jr., portrayed as Doctor Doom (without his metal mask), and what seems to be The Maestro, an evil future version of The Hulk, in the backdrop.
The picture shows all three of the villains dressed all in green, with Steve Rogers clad in an outfit that looks quite a bit like his regular Captain America costume, complete with his shield. However, rather than his uniform sporting red, white and blue patterns, this outfit sports a green, black and gold color scheme. His shield is repainted with the stripes being green, black and gold and the Hydra symbol replacing the star in the middle.
Cap’s helmet design has been altered from the large A symbolizing America to an H for Hydra. Additionally, he dons a mask resembling Bucky Barnes’ Winter Soldier mask while wearing his usual (albeit differently colored) helmet. On the other hand, Downey Jr.’s character sports green robes reminiscent of Doctor Doom, but with his face exposed to distinguish this as Steve Rogers and Tony Stark – or rather, darker versions of them.
In the post, there’s another slide featuring a version of Captain America (MCU) similar to the first one, but with a different color scheme – red and black instead of green. While the red looks nice, the green outfit just seems more fitting, as the red can appear hot pink at certain viewing angles.
