As we anticipate the releases of Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, and Wonder Man later this year, there’s a sense of optimism. But that optimism has waned following recent announcements about Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for next summer.

As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’m sharing some exciting (yet slightly disheartening) news about upcoming films – Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. According to Deadline, these release dates have been adjusted. Initially planned for May 1, 2026, Doomsday is now scheduled for December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars, a sequel to Doomsday, was set for May 7, 2027, but will now debut on December 17, 2027. Given that filming on Doomsday only began at the end of April, it’s not unexpected that Marvel Studios and Disney would push the release date back by half a year; however, this delay won’t make it any easier for us Avengers fans to bear the wait.

Pushing Back Avengers: Doomsday Is The Right Move For Disney And Marvel, As It Needs To Be A Monumental Success

Marvel is going all out for “Avengers: Doomsday”. To start, they’ve brought the Russo brothers back to lead the team. Despite some less-than-stellar work since leaving Marvel Studios, there’s no denying their success with the studio: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, and “Avengers: Endgame” stand as testament to that. Secondly, they took a risky move by casting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. It may not make perfect sense, but people love RDJ and he’s been the driving force behind Iron Man for over a decade, so it seems like an intriguing idea… why not?

To conclude, Marvel made a highly popular cast announcement for their upcoming movie, revealing most of the main actors. Alongside the anticipated return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Marvel revealed that the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men (originally from Fox films) would also be part of the action. This unexpected announcement transformed what was previously known as an Avengers film into a game-changing epic movie with so many renowned characters that you might need a chart to keep track of them all.

It seems evident that Marvel would greatly benefit from films like “Avengers: Doomsday” (and “Avengers: Secret Wars“) to recreate the cultural impact achieved by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. Extending the production team’s and post-production effects artists’ timeline by an additional six months isn’t necessarily a drawback, as it gives fans more time to grow excited about the upcoming “Avengers” releases.
