Summary
- The MCU has potential pairings yet to be explored in live-action, such as Spider-Man and Daredevil.
- Daredevil and Punisher’s return suggests the formation of fellow canceled Netflix heroes Luke Cage and Iron Fist for Heroes For Hire in the future.
- The MCU has failed to capitalize on the formation of villain groups like the Masters of Evil.
Over almost two decades, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to house an extensive collection of both heroes and villains from diverse franchises. This growth has provided fans with thrilling collaborations like the Avengers team, the combo of Deadpool and Wolverine, and numerous iterations of Spider-Man joining forces.
Regrettably, although the Marvel Cinematic Universe boasts immense possibilities, Marvel Studios haven’t fully utilized certain comic book pairings and teams in live-action yet. However, there’s always a chance for these collaborations in the future, as the franchise keeps growing through movies, TV series, and special presentations.
7. Heroes For Hire
Daredevil’s Return Could Bring Back More Netflix Heroes
- First Appearance: Power Man And Iron Fist #54
It seemed only natural for the duo from Netflix’s “The Defenders” – Luke Cage and Iron Fist – to team up as “Heroes For Hire.” However, Netflix decided to end their Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, leaving the dream of that spin-off looking unlikely.
It’s great news that Daredevil and the Punisher are coming back to the MCU in the Disney+ original series, “Daredevil: Born Again”. This opens up the possibility for other street-level heroes from the Netflix universe to make a comeback. Characters like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, who function as blue-collar superheroes much like an exterminator for criminals, offer a distinctive take on a superhero team. Their unique concept could lead to an entertaining season with fresh villains featured in each episode.
6. Spider-Man And Daredevil
Peter And Matt Are Great Friends In The Comics
- Daredevil’s First Appearance: Daredevil Vol. 1 #1
- Spider-Man’s First Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15
Following Matt Murdock’s impressive appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, fans eagerly anticipated the budding friendship between Daredevil and Spider-Man. Regrettably, since that movie, Spider-Man hasn’t made a comeback in the MCU, while Daredevil reemerged with a jovial showing in his golden suit during the “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” series.
In the comics, both Daredevil and Spider-Man share several similarities, such as their quick wit when facing adversaries and their firm stance on non-lethal techniques. These characteristics make them ideal teammates, and fans eagerly anticipate a dynamic between Tom Holland and Charlie Cox reminiscent of this camaraderie, even if it’s limited to a single movie or an episode of Daredevil: Born Again.
5. Spider-Man And Venom
Sony Fumbled The Chance To Have These Characters Meet
- Spider-Man’s First Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15
- Venom’s First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #300
It would have been ideal for Sony to team up Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Tom Hardy (Venom), but instead, Venom had a brief appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) before being returned to the Sony universe, concluding his story without any interaction with Spider-Man. Despite Tom Hardy’s enthusiasm for his Venom character interacting with MCU’s Spider-Man, this did not occur.
With Tom Hardy wrapping up his role as Venom, it appears that a battle or collaboration between Spider-Man and Venom might not occur anytime soon. However, the closing scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home hints at some residual Venom symbiote remaining within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This could potentially lead to Spider-Man acquiring the symbiote during the Secret Wars, which might pave the way for a new Eddie Brock to assume the role of Venom.
4. Young Avengers
The Perfect Team For A Disney+ Series
- First Appearance: Young Avengers Vol. 1 #1
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve seen a number of fresh young superheroes emerge, such as Stinger, the latest incarnation of Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Wiccan, and America Chavez. With these characters in place, it seems plausible that we might soon witness the formation of the Young Avengers team, following the events depicted in “The Marvels”, where Ms. Marvel interacts with Kate Bishop, the new Hawkeye. However, as of now, there’s no definitive word on a Young Avengers project from Marvel Studios.
Disney+ appears to be an excellent platform for the Young Avengers, given that most of its members have already made their debuts there. Meanwhile, the established Avengers team can maintain their presence on the big screen. The Young Avengers could face and resolve their unique threats through a series or movie, leaving room for potential crossovers in future events like “Secret Wars.
3. Masters Of Evil
There Are More Than Enough Villains To Create A Team
- First Appearance: The Avengers #6
Despite heroes being highly popular, it’s intriguing that the assemblage of villains known as the Masters of Evil has never been portrayed in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe. They serve a role similar to the Legion of Doom in the DC universe, being a formidable group of the Avengers’ most feared adversaries joining forces with the intent to either annihilate or dominate the world.
On numerous occasions, it’s been possible that defeated villains could reform into a formidable team. For example, with characters like Helmut Zemo, Kingpin, Mordo, Scorpion, Justin Hammer, Yon-Rogg, and Ultron still alive, their combined forces would pose a significant risk to the Avengers. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe tends to focus on individual threats in its Avengers films instead.
2. Midnight Suns
The Supernatural Side Of Marvel Continues To Rise
- First Appearance: Ghost Rider Vol. 3 #31
Over the past few years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been predominantly science fiction-focused. However, this trend seems to be shifting. With characters like Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night, Elsa Bloodstone, Black Knight, Man-Thing, Blade, and possibly Ghost Rider now part of the MCU, Marvel Studios has a rich array of characters that could be used to create movies or series centered around the Midnight Suns, a group I’m excited to see more of.
It’s not necessary that every significant occurrence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe becomes an Avengers film. Each of the superheroes introduced thus far can have their own standalone stories as well. Given the presence of villains like Dracula, Lilith, and Mephisto in the comics, it seems fitting to gather the Midnight Suns for a fresh kind of adventure, featuring unique aesthetics.
1. Sinister Six
The Supervillain Team Should Be In The New Spider-Man Trilogy
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1
Although Spider-Man: No Way Home had numerous well-known antagonists, it didn’t quite form the Sinister Six, as only three of them conspired together in the movie. The Green Goblin acted independently, and Doc Ock switched allegiance to become the Spider-Men’s ally. They were just one villain short of forming the Sinister Six, which felt like a significant opportunity missed.
Sony has consistently made efforts to launch the Sinister Six, whether it was the Spider-Man franchises featuring Andrew Garfield or Tom Holland, but these attempts failed due to unsuccessful standalone villain movies with no ties to Spider-Man. Now that Tom Holland is starting a new trilogy and Vulture remains at large, fans are optimistic that he will be the Spider-Man to tackle the Sinister Six challenge.
