Last December, it was announced that the upcoming free-to-play mech-action game from Amazing Seasun Games, called Mecha Break, will only be available on the Xbox Series X|S as an exclusive console title.
Given that the PS5 has emerged as the undisputed champion in its generation, it raises an intriguing query: why turn away a substantial portion of potential users from the very start?
Amazing Seasun Explains Why They Went With Xbox Instead Of PlayStation For Console Exclusivity

During a conversation with Windows Central, the CEO and Executive Producer of Mecha Break at Amazing Seasun Games, Kris Kwok, shared their reasons for choosing Xbox as the platform for the game’s debut.
As a gamer speaking from my perspective, I’ve learned that Microsoft decided to team up with another company because they believe their offerings are more dynamic compared to Sony’s. The reason behind this partnership is that the market for mech games in Japan is already overflowing. Therefore, it seemed less risky for us Western gamers to exclusively experience a mech game through Xbox, as it would be something fresh and unique for our audience.
In the same conversation, Kwok affirmed that the game would indeed join Xbox Game Pass, a development that’s hardly unexpected.
In many cases, studios based in Asia tend to align with the more popular consoles like PlayStation, but it’s unusual for one (such as Amazing Seasun, a Chinese studio) to choose Xbox instead. The fact that Sony is perceived as an Asian company might also contribute to this choice.
If you’re not already familiar with Mecha Break, it’s a multiplayer third-person shooting game that involves mechs (you guessed it!). “Following the Catastrophe, a peculiar mineral called Corite revitalized Earth’s energy sector. However, this miracle came with a downside – its harmful properties and rapid spread are consuming the planet’s remaining habitable areas. In just 30 years, the heavily polluted Marcens Zones are on track to swallow the entire world, pushing humanity perilously close to extinction.
Players have the option to select among three distinct gameplay styles: Team Deathmatch with 3 players against 3, a 6-versus-6 Hero Battle mode, and a Player versus Player versus Environment (PvPvE) Extraction Shooter.
It’s possible that the game could become a major success in the free-to-play market. Last weekend saw its latest open beta test, and it attracted over 317,000 players simultaneously, making it the fourth most played game on Steam for that day. Additionally, it ranks as the eighth most wished-for title on Steam, which is quite an achievement.
Mecha Break is scheduled for release in Spring 2025 on the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
