In the anime series “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”, Koichi Himawari serves as the main character. He’s youthful and spirited, yet finding him approachable isn’t always straightforward. Known for his frequent clumsiness, Koichi sometimes struggles to articulate his emotions. Despite this, he’s quick to lend a hand to others, particularly when they’re in danger from villains. Over the course of his thrilling escapades, he’s managed to forge more than a few intimate relationships.
In the world of “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” Koichi, the vigilante, maintains a certain level of isolation to protect his hidden identity. However, this hasn’t prevented some individuals from developing feelings for him and forming close relationships. To provide a clearer understanding of his closest confidants, here is an introduction to Koichi’s dearest friends.
8. Midnight
The Po-Hero Recognizes That Koichi Is Fighting For Justice, Despite Not Being A Fully-Fledged Hero

- First Appearance: Chapter 5
In the spin-off series “Vigilantes,” some key characters from the primary MHA storyline appear, with Midnight being one of them who stands out due to a significant role. In the Osaka incident and Sky Egg attack, she played a crucial part in thwarting the villains. Given that Koichi was also heavily involved in these events, Midnight developed a subtle admiration for the young, courageous vigilante and his actions.
When Endeavor nearly set Koichi ablaze in a furious outburst, Midnight was prepared to deceive about her whereabouts, potentially sparing his life. This isn’t an action a casual bystander or mere ally would take, as it jeopardizes their own position. The fact that she took this risk underscores just how deeply involved she had grown with the young vigilante, indicating a strong bond between them.
7. Soga Kugisaki
Soga Is A Rotten Punk Who, Unexpectedly, Develops A Bond With Koichi

- First Appearance: Chapter 1
In the thrilling narrative I’m immersed in, I, Soga, kick off as a scoundrel, nothing more than a troublemaker at the start. But as the series unfolds, I undergo a remarkable transformation, maturing bit by bit. What surprises me the most is the profound bond I form with Koichi. This connection deepens significantly once Pop Step succumbs to corruption at the hands of the Killer Bees. In our first clash with the dark side of Pop, Koichi was left in pieces. Yet, it’s me who steps up to save him, rescuing him from the jaws of danger.
During their preparations for the second bout, Soga also took it upon himself to guide Koichi, offering some tactical advice on maximizing the effectiveness of his peculiar Slide and Glide ability. Despite a bumpy beginning, Soga ended up forming an unexpected camaraderie with Koichi.
6. Shota Aizawa
After Koichi Saves Aizawa’s Life, The Hero Starts To See Him As More Than A One-Note Vigilante

- First Appearance: Chapter 2
On my initial patrol as a vigilante, I happen upon the notorious figure, Aizawa, or Eraserhead, quite unexpectedly. At first glance, it appears he fails to recognize me for who I truly am, due to the nature of my actions seeming suspicious as a vigilante. However, when Aizawa finds himself in peril against the menacing Octoid, I spring into action, rescuing him and demonstrating that I’m not as self-centered as he might have initially assumed.
On various occasions following this intense meeting, Aizawa would run into Koichi. Remarkably, Koichi was present when Aizawa reminisced about his past with Oboro during his school years. Given their contrasting allegiances, one might expect them to be adversaries. However, it didn’t take long for Aizawa and Koichi to form a friendship, despite their different groups.
5. Captain Celebrity
After Witnessing How Far The Captain Is Willing To Go To Save Others, Koichi Comes To Greatly Respect Him

- First Appearance: Chapter 14
Captain Celebrity, the most renowned hero in America, isn’t exactly charming at first glance. Instead of rushing to stop a nearby bank robbery, he seems more interested in flaunting his muscles for the cameras. At first, Koichi didn’t seem particularly fond of Celebrity, as it appeared that saving people was not high on his list of priorities.
Following the Sky Egg Tower incident, where Captain Celebrity risked his life to save the skyscraper and was brutally attacked by a villain, Koichi’s view of him shifted dramatically. This event led Koichi to develop a profound respect for Captain Celebrity. In fact, he went so far as to consider him a friend after their shared experiences.
4. Tensei Ida
Despite Koichi’s Status As A Vigilante, Tensei Still Comes To Harbor Respect For Him

- First Appearance: Chapter 5
In the central storyline, Tensei, who’s Tenya’s elder brother, and Koichi encounter each other in an unusual way for the first time. Following the pursuit of a villain with enhanced abilities due to the Trigger drug, both Tensei and Koichi end up having an unexpectedly emotional conversation. This conversation provides Koichi with insights into Tensei’s impressive standing within the Pro-Hero community, where he is highly respected.
It’s hard not to become friends with Tensei because of his friendly nature, making even an antagonist or psychopath question their ways. Consequently, Koichi finds it effortless to connect with him, despite the fact that it might be inappropriate due to Tensei being a vigilante and Koichi interacting with a hero.
3. Knuckleduster
A Mentor Figure To Koichi Who Cares Deeply For His Student

- First Appearance: Chapter 1
The main factor that led Koichi to take up the role of a vigilante initially was due to Knuckleduster, who unexpectedly appeared and provided the motivation necessary for him to start living as an outlaw. Despite Knuckleduster appearing gruff and reluctant to share his affairs with others, his interactions with Koichi were strictly professional for some time, but this dynamic evolved gradually over time.
As a formidable tag-team, Knuckleduster and Koichi frequently defeat numerous villains together, leading to an unavoidable strong friendship. Although Knuckleduster is secretive about his personal life and background, Koichi holds great admiration for his tough, experienced mentor.
2. Makoto
The Curious Reporter Quickly Becomes A Close Ally And Friend Of Koichi’s

- First Appearance: Chapter 12
Initially appearing during the Vs. Bee Queen storyline, Makoto comes across as a temporary side character who might not stick around for long. However, as events unfold, she proves to be a significant and lasting addition to the cast. As a journalist, her curiosity is piqued by uncovering the essence of hero society, leading to her intrigue towards Koichi and his identity as The Crawler.
Over time, their bond deepens into a sincere friendship, so much so that Pop Step exhibits signs of slight jealousy. Regardless, Koichi trusts Makoto implicitly and knows he can count on her for support whenever he’s in need. In return, he stands ready to aid her if she encounters trouble with villains.
1. Pop Step
Koichi And Pop Become An Inseparable Duo Who Have Always Had Soft Spots For One Another

- First Appearance: Chapter 1
Initially, I might have found my pairing with Koichi an unusual one, but it didn’t take long before our bond grew intricate and profound. In the early stages of our tale, Pop uncovered a heartwarming secret: Koichi was the selfless soul who rescued me from drowning as a child. However, this act of kindness came at a cost – he failed his hero exam. This revelation sparked a deep admiration within me for the protagonist, yet it took quite some time for Koichi to grasp the depth of my feelings towards him.
As I watched, it was when Pop seemed taken over by Number Six and his Bee Quirk that their bond deepened significantly. Time and again, Koichi risked everything to shield Pop from harm, managing a daring move to dodge an attack from the formidable Endeavor, thus sparing Pop Step from being engulfed in flames. This is but one instance of numerous occasions where they have rescued each other’s hides, acts driven by their unbreakable friendship.
