In simpler terms, the second season finale of Solo Leveling offered an outstanding climax, focusing on the global acknowledgement of Jinwoo’s extraordinary power following his battle with the Ant King. This episode elegantly paves the way for substantial storylines in season 3 by introducing some fresh characters.

In the episode, we were introduced to Rakan and Sillad, the two rulers, but also got a sneak peek at Liu Zhigang. Originating from China, Liu Zhigang is an elite S-Rank Hunter known for his incredible strength, capable of eliminating multiple Ants with a single blow. His impressive display certainly left an impact, and viewers are eagerly anticipating whether they’ll be able to see more of him in Season 3 of Solo Leveling.

Hunter Liu Zhigang
Origin China
Type National Level Hunter

Liu Zhigang is an elite Chinese Hunter, boasting immense power, as demonstrated by his one-strike kills in the Season 2 finale. He’s a handsome man who takes great pride in his abilities and constantly seeks out tougher opponents. His disappointment stemmed from not getting to engage with the Ant King in battle, as he likely could have effortlessly defeated him like Jinwoo. While Liu is confident in his powers, he doesn’t exhibit the arrogance found in Thomas Andre. Unlike Thomas, Liu isn’t overly prideful; rather, he’s simply self-assured. Liu’s preferred weapon is a sword, and he’s widely regarded as the world’s best swordsman. His swift slashes can effortlessly dismantle any foe that stands before him.

During the time on Jeju Island, it appears that Liu might have been stronger than Jinwoo; nevertheless, while Liu’s power didn’t expand, Jinwoo’s strength seemed boundless. It wasn’t until Jinwoo acquired the complete powers of the Shadow Monarch that he closed the power gap with Liu. During this realization in the Japan Crisis story arc, Liu understood that Jinwoo was significantly stronger. When a colossal being approached China’s borders, Liu stood ready to confront the danger. As anticipated, Liu effortlessly overcame the adversary, yet he was still amazed by the giant’s might. What astounded Liu even further was discovering that Jinwoo required significantly less time to vanquish the same enemy (another giant).

If Liu Zhigang had been given the chance to fight against the Black Ant instead of these ordinary opponents, he could have enjoyed himself more. (This version preserves the original meaning while using simpler and more conversational language.)

In a conversation with a Chinese journalist, Liu conceded that Jinwoo was far stronger than he was. Being second-strongest in the world, Liu held the position, but Jinwoo not only contested it, but also defeated Thomas Andre, another formidable Hunter. Yet, Liu remained humble and expressed his desire to meet the world’s strongest known Hunter, Jinwoo.

Liu Zhigang Meets Jinwoo During International Guild Conference Arc

He Congratulates Jinwoo For His Fight Against Thomas Andre

Following the Japan Crisis storyline, Liu Zhigang expressed curiosity towards Jinwoo, leading him to request details about the Hunter from the Korean Hunter Association. At that point, the true intentions behind Sung II-Hwan’s presence were still shrouded in mystery. Meanwhile, Christopher Reed, an American National Hunter, met his untimely end at the hands of the Monarchs. Since the world was unaware of their existence at the time, Sung II-Hwan found himself under suspicion for the murder.

I, as an observer, was eagerly anticipating the International Guild Conference, knowing that it would provide me with the long-awaited opportunity to encounter the Shadow Monarch, Jinwoo, who had recently bested Thomas Andre. And indeed, the conference arrived, bringing together every National Hunter, including none other than Jinwoo himself. Thus, I found myself in close proximity to the Hunter, extending my congratulations for his impressive victory over the boastful beast, Thomas Andre.

In the Final War arc, although Liu possesses considerable power, his influence is relatively minor. He engages in combat with mere weak giants during the war, and is taken aback by the strength of Jinwoo’s Shadow Army and the release of mana during the battle with Antares, the Destruction Monarch. To be frank, Liu was not maximally utilized in the original manhwa series, so it’s unlikely he will have a substantial presence in the anime series as well. It remains uncertain whether the anime will provide additional scenes for the Chinese Hunter, but it seems doubtful that he will play a pivotal role in ‘Solo Leveling’.
