Spoilers Ahead For Squid Game Season 2
8. Thanos
Uses Drugs To Fuel His Misplaced Bravery
- Debut: 001 (Season 2, Episode 3)
Season 2 gained its legendary status due to the unruly actions of Thanos, fueled by his drug-induced exploits. This character, who may have been a coward at heart, unexpectedly transformed into one of the most courageous figures in the show through his wild behavior.
In the narrative unfolding, I found myself eager to see each game through, even growing fond of the dark turns it took along the way. Yet, despite my courage, a cunning strike from my adversary proved lethal, leaving me stunned and silenced in one of the most breathtaking moments of Season 2.
7. Kim Jun-hee
Despite Being Pregnant, She Plays The Games To Secure A Better Life For Her Child
- Debut: Bread and Lottery (Season 2, Episode 1)
Jun-hee demonstrates incredible courage by deciding to join the survival games, even while pregnant. She’s determined to create a stable future for her child, as the father squandered their finances and abandoned her in a precarious situation.
Occasionally, Lee Myung-gi takes care of Jun-hee, but it’s evident that she is capable of taking care of herself when necessary. Fingers crossed that she experiences a more favorable outcome compared to many contestants in Season 3.
6. Han Mi-nyeo
Willing To Antagonize Anyone And Sacrifices Herself To Get Revenge
- Debut: Hell (Season 1, Episode 2)
No matter how unpredictable or free-spirited Han Mi-nyeo seemed, fans can’t help but acknowledge that she was one of the most intriguing characters in the show. She was like a wild card, ultimately ending up in a romantic tangle with Jang Deok-su, which culminated in him abandoning her during the Tug-of-War match, effectively leaving her to face danger alone.
From this moment on, Mi-nyeo had no intention of sparing Deok-su. Her courage might have stemmed from her desire for vengeance, but it certainly took a great deal of courage to voluntarily plunge into an abyss, pulling Deok-su toward his untimely demise.
5. Park Jung-bae
Sticks With Seong Gi-hun Even After Almost Losing His Life
- Debut: Red Light, Green Light (Season 1, Episode 1)
In the initial season, Park Jung-bae made a short appearance. However, he assumed a significant role later, becoming one of Gi-hun’s dearest friends. He embarked on a risky pursuit to apprehend a perilous individual, eventually finding himself ensnared in a treacherous game of Rock-Paper-Scissors with an added twist: “Minus One”, where his very life was at stake.
Despite this harrowing ordeal, he felt driven to participate in the games due to his desperation. He had opportunities to stand out, yet his bravery was limited by its extent; his character was fatally wounded before the protagonist as retribution for leading a revolt.
4. Kang Sae-byeok
Decides To Play The Games To Help Reunite Her Family
- Debut: Red Light, Green Light (Season 1, Episode 1)
In the first season of “Squid Game,” the captivating character, Kang Sae-byeok, who yearns for the wealth necessary to reunite her family, stands out as particularly appealing. Initially, she crosses paths with the main character by committing a robbery; however, their relationship evolves into a friendship so strong that Gi-hun goes to great lengths to safeguard her life during the final stages of the games.
She showed remarkable courage throughout the marble game, even going so far as to consider sacrificing herself for a fellow competitor. Unfortunately, due to Cho Sang-woo’s questionable actions, she tragically lost her life. The spectators were deeply saddened by this turn of events.
3. Cho Hyun-ju
Orchestrates A Rebellion And Risks It All Just To Be Accepted
- Debut: 001 (Season 2, Episode 3)
Characterized by an admirable determination, Cho Hyun-ju stands out among the cast of Squid Game, driven to amass sufficient funds for a life-altering surgery. Yet, her valor is not confined to quiet resilience; she courageously plotted the uprising of the contestants in collaboration with Gi-hun, showcasing her bravery in more tangible ways.
In plain language, her expertise as a marine was clearly evident as she took out many guards. If they had enough bullets, it’s conceivable that she could have progressed further and potentially orchestrated a successful uprising. However, these plans were ultimately futile because the individuals she trusted to resupply their ammunition lost courage and chose self-preservation instead.
2. Hwang Jun-ho
The Hunt For His Brother Continues Even After Being Shot And Dumped In The Ocean
- Debut: Hell (Season 1, Episode 2)
A detective seeking his brother, Jun-ho, sneaks into the games and encounters him. Yet, their meeting isn’t joyful as expected; instead, In-ho shoots his brother and abandons him when he tumbles down a precipice.
Yet, not only did Jun-ho manage to survive, but he bravely embarked on another quest for the island, knowing full well that his life was in peril. Truly, it takes an exceptionally courageous individual to face the dangers of the games after already witnessing how unfavorable the circumstances were for him.
1. Seong Gi-hun
Willingly Enters The Killing Games A Second Time
- Debut: Red Light, Green Light (Season 1, Episode 1)
Without a doubt, it’s clear that Player 456, otherwise known as Seong Gi-hun, stands among the most courageous characters in “Squid Game.” Defying the odds, he emerged victorious in the initial rounds of competition. Yet, he refused to sacrifice his moral compass despite witnessing the horrific ordeals that innocent individuals were subjected to.
Even though the games posed an immense risk to his life, he chose to participate once more with the intention of dismantling it from within. This courageous move is characteristic of someone like Seong Gi-hun, making him an outstanding hero worth cheering for in the series.
