- Antagonists like Eddie Pulaski and Micah Bell evoke strong emotions from players, making them unforgettable and hated.
Rockstar Games is a renowned studio, celebrated for its powerful narratives that turn gaming characters into industry icons. Yet, on occasion, their designs for characters can be particularly challenging or manipulative, whether this is done deliberately or inadvertently.
Due to the intense affection players harbor for each Rockstar game, certain game characters have faced a torrent of dislike from global gamers. This animosity drives players to go to great lengths, employing all their skills, to eliminate these detested characters.
8. Jack Marston
Fans Never Signed Up To Play As Him
It can’t be argued that Jack Marston found himself in a challenging situation when he took over his father’s role at the end of Red Dead Redemption. There seems to be an odd feeling while controlling him during Stranger missions, and the absence of a distinct personality makes it a struggle for players to finish these side quests if they haven’t already done them as John.
One reason players might choose to guide Jack is to track down Edgar Ross, engaging in a dramatic showdown that ends in Ross’ death before the closing credits. However, Jack’s character lacks the depth and appeal found in his father’s persona, making it challenging for players to find a strong motivation to spend more time exploring the world of Red Dead Redemption.
7. Lance “Ryder” Wilson
Treated CJ Like Crap Even Before He Betrayed Him
Worldwide gamers were taken aback when they discovered that Big Smoke and Ryder had teamed up with C.R.A.S.H., a revelation that shocked many, given that Big Smoke’s dialogue was a standout feature in the initial stages of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, making his subsequent betrayal all the more impactful.
Yet, when it came to Ryder, what players predominantly felt was intense, blazing fury. This individual was infamous for constantly belittling CJ and making him endure tedious tasks. Eventually, players track down this antagonist on a jet ski to exact retribution for his misdeeds, and CJ proves who the true troublemaker was by showering his former companion with bullets.
6. Lance Vance
Did Nothing And Expected The Credit
Initially, in the game “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City,” Lance and Tommy shared a strong bond. At times, Lance might have come across as impulsive and idle, yet their friendship appeared to be unbreakable.
As my admiration for Tommy swelled, so did Lance’s resentment seem to mirror mine. I found myself contributing less and yet craving recognition for my involvement. This simmering jealousy gradually ignited into a full-blown fire, pushing Lance to align with Sonny Forelli in a treacherous move against Tommy. This betrayal, marked by his deceitful actions, left both me and Tommy resenting Lance, tarnishing the image of friendship we once held dear.
5. Catalina
Irritating And Entertaining In Equal Measure
A person’s feelings towards Catalina might differ, but it’s hard to argue that this fiery Latina can be a nuisance for CJ when she gets worked up. This statement doesn’t touch upon her role as the primary adversary in Grand Theft Auto 3, as she deceives Claude and leaves him to die after their betrayal.
In the game ‘San Andreas’, CJ is forced to work with this character for a brief span of missions before she departs. However, Claude, a character in ‘Grand Theft Auto 3’, carries an intense dislike for her throughout the entirety of his long-running game. Fans of ‘San Andreas’ may find her tolerable, but those playing ‘GTA 3’ cannot stand her.
4. Gary Smith
Pretended To Befriend Jimmy Only To Take Advantage Of Him
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that Rockstar Games has a knack for crafting stories where protagonists are betrayed by their closest confidants. Take Jimmy Hopkins in Bully, for instance. Gary, who initially seems to be looking out for the new kid at Bullworth Academy, eventually turns his back on him after manipulating him for his own gain, ultimately throwing him under the bus.
Gary’s overconfident demeanor makes him seem like an endless target for punching, driving Jimmy to regain everyone’s respect in the school and seek revenge against Gary. The climactic showdown offers a thrilling experience for players, allowing them to release their pent-up anger towards this haughty antagonist who clearly underestimated the consequences.
3. Eddie Pulaski
Lacks Tenpenny’s Charisma But Retains His Superior’s Negative Qualities
Tenpenny often makes CJ feel like a mere toy, yet Samuel L. Jackson’s captivating charm keeps this character a joy to despise. Unfortunately, the same adoration isn’t extended towards Eddie Pulaski, his subordinate.
In a more straightforward manner, this could be rephrased as: This unscrupulous police officer constantly criticizes CJ at every turn, making him a real nuisance. One of the most satisfying scenes in San Andreas is when we manage to track him down and make him pay for his wrongdoings by causing him harm.
2. Edgar Ross
Manipulates John Only To Execute Him Unceremoniously
Edgar Ross might be fulfilling his responsibilities as a Pinkerton, but it doesn’t make him more endearing. He persistently pursues Dutch’s gang in “Red Dead Redemption 2”, and his actions ultimately lead to tension that eventually splits the group apart.
In the initial “Red Dead Redemption” game, John is manipulated into eliminating the remaining members of Dutch’s gang by the promise of his own freedom. However, this was merely a ruse, as Marston barely got to savor a few tranquil days before Ross and the Pinkertons coldly came to end his life.
1. Micah Bell
Every Rockstar Fan Has Dreamed Of Punching This Man Once Or Twice
Among the most despised figures in video game lore, Micah Bell is often seen as a treacherous character who richly deserves an agonizing end. Dying from a gunshot wound inflicted by Dutch was far too merciful a fate for someone like him.
In a different phrasing: Micah ridiculed Arthur, made light of his deadly tuberculosis, deceived everyone by aligning with the Pinkertons, and tainted the water source so deeply that Dutch’s gang members lost faith in him. Although there was still some charm to the man Arthur initially respected, Micah became an unbearable figure for many players that they would refuse to help escape prison if they were to replay Red Dead Redemption 2.
