It’s been less than two weeks since Pokemon Legends: Z-A was released, and players are at different stages – some are finishing the main story, while others are already hunting for shiny Pokémon with the Shiny Charm. No matter how you’re playing, there’s plenty to do in the game, including completing quests to find legendary Pokémon like Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. Mega Greninja has become very popular both in the story mode and in online battles, but its time in the spotlight is limited, so players should take advantage while they can.
If you’re wondering how to get Greninjite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you’ll need to play online. While this might be frustrating for players who don’t have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, it’s currently the only way to obtain it. The Pokemon series often includes rewards specifically for online play, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A continues that trend with the Generation 6 starter Pokemon.
- Mega Greninja/Greninjite is available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Ranked Season 1 until November 4 at 9:59 p.m. PST.
- Mega Delphox/Delphoxite will be available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Ranked Season 2, starting November 5.
- Mega Chesnaught/Chesnaughtite will be available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Ranked Season 3, starting November 26.
Mega Greninja is a highly favored and powerful Pokémon in the ranked battles of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but players only have one week left to obtain it. Because the official website states that Greninjite isn’t available through regular gameplay, it’s likely this opportunity won’t return in the future.
Keep an eye out for special online rewards that occasionally reappear, as Mega Greninja and its Mega Stone, Greninjite, might become available a couple of times each year. However, this isn’t guaranteed.
How to Get Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Greninjite and Mega Greninja, and Why It’s Easy
To unlock the Greninjaite, which is essential for Mega Greninja in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, players need to achieve Rank K during Season 1. The good news is reaching this rank isn’t about winning every battle! You can earn points towards your rank by doing the following:
- X-Pokemon defeater – Challenge that awards 10 points for every opposing Pokemon defeated in a battle.
- Dealt first attack – Challenge that awards 10 points for attacking an opposing Pokemon before anyone else.
- Dealt last attack – Challenge that awards 10 points for being the last to attack an opposing Pokemon.
- First to claim an item – Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who is the first to pick up an item in a battle.
- First to Mega Evolve – Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who Mega Evolves their Pokemon before anyone else.
- Flawless survivor – Challenge that awards 10 points to players whose Pokemon don’t faint in a battle.
- Fresh opponent hunter – Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who attacks opposing Pokemon at full health the most number of times.
- Mega Evolution destroyer – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat a Mega Evolved Pokemon.
- Mega-Evolving master – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat an opposing Pokemon with a Mega Evolved Pokemon.
- Most active attacker – Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who lands the most attacks in a battle.
- Plus Move master – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat an opposing Pokemon with a Plus Move.
- Scatter attacker – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat at least one Pokemon from each opponent.
- Supereffective attacker – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who use supereffective moves 5 times or more in a battle.
- Three-in-a-row KO – Challenge that awards 10 points to players who get three consecutive KOs.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Plus Moves can be used by pressing “+” in the attack selection screen.
Players earn or lose points based on their finishing position in each battle: 30 points for first place, 10 for second, -10 for third, and -30 for fourth. It’s quite simple to end a game with a positive score, and once earned, ranks don’t decrease, so players maintain their progress. You can also earn points by completing 13 challenges worth 10 points each, another challenge that awards 10 points per defeated opponent’s Pokémon, and, as mentioned, through battle rankings, which can add up to 30 points.
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, if multiple players achieve the same score in Link Battles, they all receive the best rank possible for that score.
November 5 is Officially The End of an Era For Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Players won’t be able to get Mega Greninja and its evolution item, Greninjite, after November 5th in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. To earn Greninjite, you need to reach Rank K, so players should aim to do so between now (October 27th) and November 4th. Getting to Rank K requires climbing 15 ranks, starting from Rank Z for new online players.
The initial levels are simple to complete, and it’s possible to earn over 100 points in one match if you play well. Still, progressing through everything might take a few hours of online play, especially if you’re new to the game mode. There’s a time limit, so focus on getting as many knockouts as you can. Keep in mind that you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play, either by paying for it or using the free 7-day trial.
Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Can’t Miss This Online Battle Milestone
Greninjite, an item needed to transform Greninja into its Mega Evolution, will no longer be available after November 4th, marking the end of Season 1. This means players who haven’t obtained it likely won’t be able to use Mega Greninja in battles for quite some time. The next two seasons will focus on Mega Delphox and Mega Chesnaught, respectively. It’s expected that Greninjite won’t return until the release of the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, or possibly even later. Therefore, fans should try to earn it quickly, and the Halloween weekend might be a good opportunity to get some wins in Season 1 while it’s still available.
