
Megabonk is currently very popular with roguelike fans. It’s easy to pick up and enjoy, even if you’re new to these types of randomly generated, dungeon-exploring games, which is why so many people are playing it. But if you want to really succeed, climb the leaderboards, and survive for a long time, knowing which items will make your character stronger is essential.
As a Megabonk player, I’ve put together this guide to help you gear up! We’ll cover everything from the super basic stuff you find early on, all the way to legendary items that can even keep you going after you… well, you know. I’ll be highlighting some of the best items for staying alive – things that boost your defense, give you healing, and just help you survive in general.
S-Tier Survival Items in Megabonk
Let’s start with the most effective defensive, healing, and survival Items. Megabonk offers a wide selection, but here are some of the very best:
- Za Warudo: Offers another life (filling the health bar) and a time-freeze global effect each time players hit 0 health. It breaks after one use, but having two of them means only one will break. This item is extremely useful to have in every build and difficulty setting.
- Holy Book: Grants 100 HP and 50 Regeneration and turns all healing effects into a radial damage aura, so it’s a decent pick to have. Combined with Lifesteal builds it becomes absolutely broken.
- Chonkplate: This item will grant an extra 20% Lifesteal and allows players to Overheal, up to 75% of their Max Health, which is broken. Chonkplate can stack their lifesteal effects, but the Overheal effect will only stack at a reduced rate.
- Slippery Ring: Each of these rings adds 15% Evasion chance, so it’s a broken item even if it’s regular.
- Spiky Shield: Each time players pick this item, it adds 10% Defense and grants thorns for every 2% of Defense. Great for reflecting damage builds.
- Bloody Cleaver: Lifesteal now triggers Bloodmark and grants a 50% chance to apply Bloodmark on enemies. Bloodmark triggers an explosion effect similar to Blood Magic, and heals players for 7.5% of the damage caused.
- Mirror: Reflects Damage and adds a brief moment of invulnerability. An awesome item.
A-Tier Survival Items in Megabonk
Next, we have the common items – while not as rare – that still significantly boost your survival, defense, and healing abilities. These A-Tier Items can really help you progress, and because getting good loot in Megabonk is often unpredictable, players should grab and focus on collecting these whenever they get the opportunity.
- Demon Blood: Grants 9 HP each, and a bump to armor and thorns. Pretty useful when stacked.
- Medkit: Each one grants +45 Regeneration. Quite viable for regeneration builds, and works wonders when used alongside Holy Book.
- Oats: Grants an Extra 25 HP. Do not underestimate this basic item, as it can help players reach health tiers for items like Beefy Ring.
- Slurp Gloves: Grants a Blood Magic effect that can be triggered every 9 seconds (reduced with each stack), causing damage and applying Bloodmark, which heals 7.5% of the damage done. Combined with the right weapons, it becomes quite broken.
- Speed Boi: After taking damage that will leave players below 50% HP, it slows down time and deals x2 damage. Great Item for every kind of build, but its cooldown might become a problem during swarms.
B-D Tier Survival Items in Megabonk
The items below are considered B-Tier, meaning they aren’t the most effective choices for prioritizing defense. Some are useful only in specific situations, and others provide benefits that don’t become strong enough as the game gets harder, or don’t work well when combined with similar effects.
B-Tier Defensive Items
- Leeching Crystal: Grants + 50% HP at the cost of -50% HP Regen. Ideal for lifesteal builds, but doesn’t pair well with most survival builds. Thus, it becomes less viable the more difficulty scales.
- Gas Mas: Makes players resistant to poison. Situational at best, since few enemies cause a poison effect.
C-Tier Defensive Items
- Coward’s Cloak: Grants a massive bump in speed on hit, plus +5% extra speed. Though, its cooldown is unreliable and there are other ways to enhance survivability.
- Demonic Blace: +25 Lifesteal on Critical Hit sounds good. Unless players are not building critical, then its useless.
D-Tier Defensive Items
- Campfire: Standing still and constantly healing at a rapid speed might sound like a good idea, but unless players have scaled their armor and evasion to pretty high levels, this item might become useless.
- Borgar: Grants 2% chance of enemies dropping a small healing item. Completely useless beyond tier 1.
