Metal Gear Solid Delta Has a PS5 Pro Performance Problem

Preliminary assessments suggest that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater doesn’t run as smoothly on the PlayStation 5 Pro as expected. Interestingly, tests have shown that the standard PlayStation 5 actually outperforms the Pro model in several aspects, particularly when it comes to the game’s frame rate.

After the successful reboot of “Silent Hill 2”, fans have been eagerly anticipating Konami’s next remake. Unlike “Silent Hill 2”, the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” retains its original voice actors, but both remakes employ Unreal Engine 5 technology.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Doesn’t Perform On PS5 Pro as Expected

According to preliminary tests by Digital Foundry, enthusiastic owners of PS5 Pro consoles might be disappointed due to some performance issues noticed. When the game was compared on both a standard PS5 and a PS5 Pro, both experienced frame rate drops; however, the PS5 ran at approximately 48-60 FPS in Performance Mode, with occasional drops as low as 30-50 FPS in certain areas. The PS5 Pro’s frame rate, on average, was lower than the standard PS5’s Performance Mode, and it experienced dips even in areas where the standard PS5 ran smoothly. In comparison, the PS5 in Performance Mode averaged 7 frames per second higher than the PS5 Pro in busy areas.

On the PS5 Pro, there are visual issues noticed alongside some frame rate dips that might not sit well with all players. A comparison of a jungle scene between the PS5 Pro and other consoles shows that in Performance Mode, the PS5 Pro displays at a resolution of 864p, while Quality Mode offers 1412p, but the PS5 Pro falls behind at 756p. Although the PS5 Pro uses PSSR to enhance visuals, Digital Foundry discovered that the PS5 Pro’s reconstructed image had difficulty meeting the clarity of the base PS5. Additionally, PSSR appeared to have issues with denoising, leading to more noticeable flickering shading on the Pro as compared to the standard console.

On the flip side, while the PS5 Pro version wasn’t flawless, it excelled in minimizing flickering visual artifacts during motion and reducing occurrences of occlusion artifacts. Regrettably, despite these improvements, players using the PS5 Pro might still find the current state of the game disappointing.

There remains a chance that an initial update could significantly address these issues, making them less noticeable for players when they first launch the game on its release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. As the launch date is nearing, we’ll soon find out if the issues have been resolved. For now, gamers who own both versions of the console might want to clean off their old PS5s in anticipation.
