A major highlight of Sony’s February 12 State of Play was the news that a beloved Metal Gear Solid game is being remastered for current gaming systems, meaning it will no longer be limited to the PlayStation 3.
For years, the Metal Gear Solid series was mainly known as a PlayStation exclusive. However, after creator Hideo Kojima departed from Konami, the games became available on a wider range of platforms. Today, you can find many Metal Gear Solid titles updated and playable on the latest gaming consoles.
For years, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was only available on a single gaming system. Now, Konami has announced that it will finally be released on PlayStation 5 as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, revealed during the February 12 Sony State of Play.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots originally came out for the PlayStation 3 in 2008 and concluded the story of Solid Snake, who was artificially aged throughout the game. While it was generally well-received, some players felt it had too many long cutscenes and a lot of dialogue.
For years, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has only been available on PlayStation 3. Now, it’s being released on PlayStation 5 as part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, which arrives on August 27, 2026. This marks the first time the game will be playable on a new console.
For years, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was exclusive to the PlayStation 3, but now it’s becoming available on other platforms.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2 features Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, a game originally released on the PSP and starring Big Boss after the events surrounding The Boss. This version is the same as the updated HD edition found in previous Metal Gear Solid collections.
It’s great that more people can now play Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This release lets new fans enjoy the complete story of Solid Snake without needing old gaming consoles.
