As a seasoned adventurer with countless battles under my belt in the world of Metaphor, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the invaluable assistance provided by Bardon and his abilities. The discount at weapon, armor, and igniter shops (thanks to Brigitta’s Guild Discount) has been a game-changer for my wallet and gear collection, making it possible to outfit my party members with the best equipment without breaking the bank.
In the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio“, you have the opportunity to develop connections with unique characters, each representing one of the heroic archetypes within you.
Cultivating friendships has its inherent charm, and acquiring additional Combat Archetypes isn’t detrimental either, but it’s not just these factors that warrant considering your Allies.
Each time you advance a Bond, you’ll earn a fresh skill. Occasionally, it might be a straightforward benefit such as reduced costs when studying their associated Archetype. However, other times, you’ll unlock special skills like efficient time management tools, helpful resources for dungeon navigation, and various discounts at the numerous shops scattered throughout the kingdom.
10 More: More’s Magic Igniter
The Convenience Of Akademia, Everywhere You Go
Unlocked | More’s Bond Rank 2 |
---|---|
Effect | The Archetype Tree becomes accessible from the main menu |
At the beginning of the narrative, if you wish to alter your characters’ character types or innate abilities, you should make a trip to More in Akademia.
While More can be found in all towns, before dungeons, and in the Gauntlet Runner, if you’re already in a danger zone, you can’t change up your kit.
Using More’s Magic Igniter allows you to access the Archetype and Skill Inheritance menus directly from your pause screen, eliminating the need for frequent trips back to Akademia each time.
It’s a time-saver, and you can hot-swap Archetypes in the middle of a dungeon.
9 More: Ability Forecast
Know What’s To Come To Prioritize Your Bonds
Unlocked | More’s Bond Rank 4 |
---|---|
Effect | Allows you to preview all abilities for followers from the main menu |
It’s pleasant to try and connect with many people as a means of personal growth, but it can feel a bit tedious to invest your time in relationships where you’re not receiving direct advantages or rewards.
Ahead of engaging with your followers, acquiring some preliminary understanding would greatly enhance the efficiency of your interactions.
The forecast provided by More’s Ability predicts a complete list of abilities progression for each Follower you have acquired, detailing both their names and effects.
If you’re hastening a relationship with the aim of unlocking a particular ability, you’ll be aware of precisely how often you must advance in order for it to become accessible.
8 Junah: Triumphant Hymn
Every Bit Of MP You Can Get Helps
Unlocked | Junah’s Bond Rank 2 |
---|---|
Effect | After battle, all party members recover a little MP |
As you fight off enemies in the Metaphor dungeons, your team’s shared Magic Points (MP) steadily deplete over time.
Since MP recovery resources are scarce, it’s essential to make use of any small source you find, whether that’s prepared meals or handy skills, in order to boost your MP supply.
Among these useful skills, there’s Junah’s Victory Anthem, which replenishes a bit of MP for the entire team following each victorious fight.
Should you manage to reach the maximum level on her Bond ability, Triumphant Hymn transforms into Heroic Hymn. This transformation provides a greater amount of MP restoration following battles, not quite a complete recovery, but certainly extends your playtime significantly.
7 Maria: Speed Cooking
We Don’t Have All Day To Stand Over A Stove
Unlocked | Maria’s Bond Rank 4 |
---|---|
Effect | Time will not elapse while cooking in the runner’s kitchen |
Initially, upon gaining the skill to cook in the Gauntlet Runner’s kitchen for the first time, you find yourself dedicating an entire day or night to prepare a solitary meal.
While the assortment of dishes you can cook is indeed beneficial, we’re pressed for time in this situation, and the time spent cooking might be better utilized for more pragmatic tasks.
As a gamer, I can whip up a whole meal using Maria’s Speed Cooking skill in the Gauntlet Runner’s kitchen without actually spending any time. This frees me up to focus on boosting my Bonds, enhancing my stats, or diving into various other activities within the Gauntlet Runner’s world!
6 Catherina: Bounty Bonus
If You’re Going to Risk Your Life, It Better Be Worth It
Unlocked | Catherina’s Bond Rank 3 |
---|---|
Effect | Fattens the purse of bounty rewards at each city’s Recruitment Center |
As a gamer, I find it thrilling to take on colossal beasts upon request from the town’s Recruitment Center. Not only does this provide a swift income, but it also offers tantalizing clues about hidden dungeons that could potentially house additional riches and loot.
As a gamer, I’d surely agree that embarking on a virtual hunt needs some budget, but it can be quite a bummer when you find yourself dipping into your wallet constantly to restock your supplies. It’s like the thrill of the game gets lost in the financial aspect.
Thanks to Catherina’s Bounty Bonus, the money you earn from clearing each Recruitment Center bounty will see a significant multiplication.
It seems that Catherina’s reputation as an accomplished bounty hunter is so impressive that the guard lacks the courage to refuse her request for improved rewards on your behalf.
5 Catherina: Comrades In Battle
One More Pair Of Fists Never Hurts
Unlocked | Catherina’s Bond Rank 7 |
---|---|
Effect | Catherina will support the party in certain dungeons |
In most conventional role-playing games set in a fantastical realm, a unique character such as Catherina would undoubtedly become a valued team member. However, due to her being deeply engaged in her bid for the throne, she regrettably cannot join your team in Metaphor at this time.
That said, while she can’t join you completely, she can still chip into your efforts now and then.
In the opening of a fight, Catherine’s “Comrades in Battle” skill causes her to unexpectedly join, landing a powerful punch on one randomly chosen opponent.
Regrettably, Catherina can assist you primarily in secondary quest areas, yet her support is incredibly beneficial when tackling tasks and bounties.
4 Alonzo: Grifter’s Eye
Peg Monsters Before You Even Meet Them
Unlocked | Alonzo’s Bond Rank 7 |
---|---|
Effect | Unlocks Analyse data for all enemies with certain exceptions |
Typically, when Gallica encounters a fresh monster during an exploration in Metaphor, she won’t initially know what it’s vulnerable or resistant against.
You’ll just have to try things at random until you land upon a weakness and go from there.
In case you’re pressed for time, the unique talent of Alonzo’s Grifter’s Eye can immediately show all the characteristics or tendencies of a monster upon scanning, regardless of whether you’ve previously encountered it.
This method isn’t effective against powerful bosses, but you’ll need to handle them using traditional, more manual methods instead.
3 Brigitta: Guild Discount
There’s Perks To Membership
Unlocked | Brigitta’s Bond Rank 5 |
---|---|
Effect | Receive a discount at weapon, armour, and igniter shops |
In Metaphor, warfare and protective equipment are among the largest expenses for any newly established town. Though you might strike it rich occasionally by discovering gear for your characters in dungeons, you’ll generally need to invest in good quality weapons and armor from the merchants to have a fighting chance.
To help ease your burden, Brigitta’s Guild Discount feature grants you a reduction in prices across all weapon and armor stores within the game, plus her Igniter store in Grand Trad.
Interestingly enough, the discount applies not just where it’s expected, but also unexpectedly so, like the Mustari stores on Eht Ria. It seems that a guild representative exerted some influence to get these shops on board.
2 Bardon: Rapid Swapper
Move It, Troops, Double Time!
Unlocked | Bardon’s Bond Rank 6 |
---|---|
Effect | Halves the Turn Icon cost of switching with a reserve member during Squad Battle |
If five or more characters are part of your team, you can change them during battle using the Tactics interface. But be aware that replacing one character will use up an entire turn, and in tense situations, even a small action could alter the outcome significantly.
Using Bardon’s Quick Exchange skill, exchanging party members during battle consumes just half a turn symbol, rather than a complete one.
Leaving an opportunity to capitalize on a vulnerability unexploited is a risk, but making sure everyone has the chance to act could be crucial in maintaining your overall plan.
1 Bardon: Escape Master
Look, A Distraction!
Unlocked | Bardon’s Bond Rank 7 |
---|---|
Effect | With certain exceptions, escape will always succeed during Squad Battle |
In the game of Metaphor, one particularly annoying situation arises when your adversary unexpectedly attacks first during combat, dealing damage to your team for an entire turn or imposing unfavorable status effects upon them.
As a dedicated player, I find myself often cornered in unexpected ambushes, leaving me no choice but to grit my teeth and exhaust valuable resources in the process.
Using Bardon’s Escape Expert skill ensures that you will always successfully flee from regular Squad Battles, regardless of whether you were caught off guard in an ambush.
If you prefer not to use your healing or status recovery items, consider attempting to stun the opponent once more by fleeing the battlefield (you could also say, “if you’d rather avoid using those items, go for a dash and aim to stun the enemy again, or simply retreat”).
