Metaphor: ReFantazio – Destroyer Charadrius Boss Guide

As a grizzled veteran of countless digital battles, I’ve seen my fair share of formidable foes, but none have quite tested my mettle like the Destroyer Charadrius from ‘Metaphor: ReFantazio‘. This boss fight is a true gauntlet, and if you thought you could rest on your laurels after the first two battles, well, think again!

In the climactic battle of ReFantazio, the final boss appears in two distinct stages following the initial pair of boss encounters during the end-game gauntlet. Noteworthy is that your Health Points (HP) and Magic Points (MP) are replenished prior to this confrontation; however, they do not regenerate between the two phases of the fight.

This boss fight is by far the hardest mainline boss in the game and has five Press Turn icons if you’re playing on Hard. Here’s how to beat both phases of Destroyer Charadrius.

How To Prepare For Destroyer Charadrius In Metaphor: ReFantazio

  • Basilio – Royal Berserker
  • Eupha – Royal Summoner
  • Junah – Royal Masked Dancer
  • Protagonist – Prince

In my critique, I discovered that the quantity of Press Turn icons in this game is contingent upon the number of crystals you uncover and obliterate during your journey through The Tyrant’s Star. Eliminating every crystal significantly diminishes the difficulty of confronting the boss.

For optimal performance against this boss, it is crucial to have The Utilitarian’s Manual on the Lead Character, especially if Basilio is your chosen character. Maximize Basilio’s relationship (bond) for best results since both phases of the boss are classified as Human. Using Basilio’s Beast’s Insight ability will increase his agility and dodge potential. Additionally, keep in mind that the boss has access to all elements; using gear that offers resistance to some of them may grant you an opportunity to cut his turn short.

In the initial stage, it’s beneficial to have Makarakarn due to his frequent usage of magical attacks. Throughout both stages, Almighty Golden Stew is an excellent power-up item in the game, making this battle significantly easier. Since this is the final boss, keep some items for restoring Magic Points handy and be prepared to use them if necessary.

How To Beat Destroyer Charadrius (Phase 1) In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Neither phase of this boss has any weaknesses, resistances, or affinities.

As a passionate cinephile immersed in the thrilling world of this game, I must admit that the initial skirmish is undeniably intimidating due to the trio of masks I’ll be squaring off against. Each mask carries an extra Press Turn icon, amping up the total to five if you’re braving the hard mode. A clever tactic here would be to employ Junah’s Hellfire Dance, swiftly followed by Eupha’s Summon Dragon God (enhanced version). This strategic combo not only unleashes a Weak attack on all masks but also imposes debuffs on them. This cunning move compels them to expend one of their Press Turn icons to counter those detrimental effects.

You can choose any of the three masks, but it’s important to focus on one at a time. By defeating each mask, you’ll take away one of his Press Turn icons per round. During his turns, he’ll summon sacrifices in the mouths of the masks. When you notice this, concentrate your single-target attacks like Royal Sword or anything from Basilio on the mask with the sacrifice. Dealing enough damage to it will cause it to lose the sacrifice, a Press Turn icon the next turn, and prevent him from using a powerful attack in the subsequent round.

In most cases, he’ll employ a collective magical assault, potentially inflicting related status afflictions. If you can maintain your party’s defense to minimize healing needs, it’s advisable. However, as long as you’re weakening him, he’ll only attack twice each turn. When you eliminate all three masks, a short cutscene will ensue, marking the beginning of phase 2.

How To Beat Destroyer Charadrius (Phase 2) In Metaphor: ReFantazio

In Phase 2, we continue exactly from where Phase 1 ended, giving him five Press Turn tokens each turn, but no masks to destroy. This new phase requires our protagonist to concentrate heavily on physical attacks rather than relying solely on magic. However, he should also use magical spells occasionally, especially targeting Basilio to activate Beast’s Insight and maintain the party’s defense. Maintain the strategy with Junah and Eupha as in Phase 1, keeping him debilitated and forcing him to waste a turn using Dekunda.

In this stage, it’s crucial to focus on healing since he has a move called Soul Scream when his health drops close to half, which grants him extra turns. Besides this challenging aspect, phase 2 is relatively straightforward. If you concentrate on using the Protagonist’s Royal Sword, it deals substantial damage and transforms the battle into a strategy of managing MP (Mana Points).
