As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the main operations in “Metaphor: ReFantazio” are nothing short of extraordinary. Each operation is meticulously crafted to keep the player engaged and immersed in the game’s captivating narrative.
The Save the Prince from Death’s Curse operation, being the game’s main objective, sets the stage for an unforgettable journey. It’s fascinating how the game maintains its focus on this central goal, unlike many JRPGs that tend to meander off course.
One operation that particularly stood out for me was the Skybound Avatar Conquest. The narrative flourishes in this operation are truly remarkable, and I found myself cheering as pathways opened up due to the dissipation of anxiety among the population. It’s a testament to the game’s ability to make you feel like you’re part of something bigger than yourself.
However, let me caution any aspiring heroes out there – Louis is no pushover! Prepare for the Final Battle operation is a stern reminder that our protagonist isn’t just going to walk into the villain’s lair and defeat him without a fight.
Lastly, I must admit, the joke about the crimson sky looming over NPC reactions had me chuckling. It’s always refreshing to see a game that can find humor in even the most dire of situations. Keep up the great work, developers!
ReFantazio refers to its primary missions as “operations,” a fitting term given that this JRPG usually provides ample preparation time prior to engaging with our assigned tasks.
The game encompasses a total of ten main tasks. Several of these tasks center around particular locations, frequently linked to the Tournament for the Throne, whereas others offer insights into our group’s covert objectives as we progress through our adventure.
Every time we embark on a fresh mission in the game, there are opportunities available for us to get ready. This can involve strengthening relationships with our allies, enhancing the hero’s attributes, taking up optional tasks, or delving into caves and dungeons.
We repeat this cycle until we’ve completed every Operation and reached the end of the game.
As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersing myself in various narratives, I must say that the main story of “Metaphor: ReFantazio” is truly exceptional. Having played through it, I can confidently assert that this game stands out from many others due to its unique blend of suspense, mystery, and emotional depth. The plot twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and the characters were intricately developed, making their journeys deeply impactful. If you’re looking for an engaging and thought-provoking gaming experience, I wholeheartedly recommend “Metaphor: ReFantazio.
10. Thwart Zorba’s Plan
Pretty Much a Boss Fight
Operation Thwart Zorba’s Plan appears somewhat out of place due to its concise nature, as it essentially comprises a single boss encounter within the Regalith Grand Cathedral.
Following the successful Necromancer Takedown, Zorba resurrects a human in Grand Trad’s square, leaving it to the group to vanquish the menacing boss before it wreaks havoc across the city, reminiscent of the terror depicted in Attack on Titan.
In this encounter, Homo Avades isn’t our initial foe, but it’s the first battle where you’ll need strategy beyond constant button mashing. This is also where Atlus showcases their knack for creating uniquely strange adversaries.
As a gamer, I found myself underwhelmed by my quick mission to Foil Zorba’s Scheme when compared to other missions. Despite the thrilling human combat, it didn’t leave as lasting an impact on me.
9. Eliminate Virga Island’s Threat
Another One-Boss-Fight-Only Operation
In the current operation, it mirrors the structure of the previous one. After securing the Drakodios from the Dragon Temple in the mission titled “Eliminate Virga Island’s Threat,” we are immediately thrown into a new confrontation with a human adversary without any respite.
The battle isn’t excessively difficult, but it does call for a bit of tactical thinking and careful observation of the boss’s aura to expose its vulnerabilities. Given that Eupha has just joined our team and boasts an exceptionally potent Summoner character class, make sure to take full advantage of her abilities in the upcoming battle.
Following the conflict, Virga Island stands secure, the Drakodio now under your control, and the mission comes to a close – succinctly said.
8. Obtain Drakodios
Prepare for the Worst Dungeon
As a devoted fan, I’m excited about the next Tournament for the Throne challenge! It’s all about retrieving a sacred relic that guides us to the Virga Islands, the birthplace of all relics. The Obtain Drakodios Operation takes us on an intriguing journey, leading us deep into the sprawling Dragon Temple dungeon.
The distinctive feature of this Operation lies in its fluidity. Although I appreciated Eupha and found the exploration of various faiths in “Metaphor: ReFantazio” intriguing, I didn’t feel particularly attached to the lives of the Mustari.
My primary pleasure stemmed from observing the team work out their clandestine strategies, all while being closely monitored by Basilio and Fidelio.
A significant event takes place within the Dragon Temple as we accidentally find ourselves amidst Shinjuku, uncovering assorted artifacts linking to our modern era, sparking curiosity and puzzlement.
To be clear, let me emphasize again that the Dragon Temple dungeon was such an extensive adventure that it left me feeling fatigued, impacting my overall pleasure in the storyline. Frankly, I couldn’t wait to advance to the next exciting plot point.
7. Necromancer Takedown
The Calendar System Starts
Once the long introduction of the Metaphor is concluded, the Necromancer Takedown mission officially commences. At this point, we have full autonomy over our actions, and a timeline mechanism activates, providing us with several days to ready ourselves for the objective that lies ahead.
In the game of Metaphor: ReFantazio, it’s not necessary to spend every day before attacking the main dungeon. Instead, following good strategy involves finishing the operation’s objective first, and afterward, you can use any remaining days according to your discretion.
Task: Necromancer Takedown requires you to prevent Zorba, a minion of General Louis, from stealing the King’s Royal Scepter and handing it over to his master. Our mission is to thwart him, and in a dramatic climax, he resurrects the Homo Avades. The revised plan is Thwart Zorba’s Scheme.
In your first venture into Metaphor: ReFantazio, the initial operation serves as a preview of things to come. Skilled gamers may conquer the Regalith Grand Cathedral within a single day, but remember it’s vast, so taking a bit longer is perfectly fine.
6. Apprehend the Real Kidnapper
A Tale of Parenthood
Following the conclusion of affairs in Grand Trad, the group embarks towards Martira, aiming to secure a significant hunt that could boost their reputation in the Tournament for the Throne and garner public support. At first, their primary mission is rescuing the prince; however, this mission evolves when Heismay becomes part of the team.
Initially, it appears that Heismay is involved in abducting children, but upon discovering this allegation is untrue, the “Catch the Actual Kidnapper” operation starts, a title that speaks for itself.
In Metaphor: ReFantazio, we’re given some time to ready ourselves before venturing into Kriegante Castle. There, we encounter one of its peculiar bosses, and unravel the mystery behind the abductions. This juncture also offers an opportunity to empathize with Heismay and his fatherly hardships.
As a social worker who has dealt with numerous tragic cases involving children, I can say that the narrative of this Operation is incredibly hard-hitting, especially for parents. Despite Joanna’s wrongdoings in kidnapping and raising an evil child, it becomes nearly impossible not to feel a deep sense of empathy towards her as a grieving mother. This story serves as a stark reminder of the complex emotions that can arise when dealing with such heart-wrenching situations, and how easily one can find themselves on the wrong side of the law due to circumstances beyond their control.
5. Infiltrate the Charadrius
Mission Impossible-esque Operation
Initiating the “Charadrius Operation” serves as the catalyst for our clandestine purpose, and it’s the primary motivation that led our central character to participate in the Tournament of the Crown.
The gathering needs to explore Louis’s airship, Skyrunner Charadrius, in order to find the prince’s curse formula and perhaps uncover a remedy for it.
This mission offers unexpected turns in the game mechanics, incorporating stealth sections that can be skipped by players not fond of stealth maneuvers in dark environments. Additionally, there are two separate routes you can choose within the Charadrius, resulting in varying boss battles.
As a gamer, I can tell you that this operation is pulse-pounding, putting me right in the middle of a high-stakes Mission: Impossible-style escapade. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but then it all crumbles. Suddenly, I’m soaring through the air on a sky-surf, only to find myself spotted by one of Louis’s overzealous hounds.
It’s fortunate that Junah openly supports our cause, providing assistance for the operation and our defense, when asked about the protagonist being on Louis’s Skyrunner rather than indulging in the festivities of the party instead.
A slight concern I have is that Junah seems to casually activate her Archetype power, making it seem less dramatic or powerful compared to the other party members when they awakened theirs.
4. Save the Country
The Last Operation
In your final mission, you are charged with capturing Tyrant’s Star, the ultimate stronghold. Here, you will encounter Louis in his most tyrannical state.
Or:
Your last operation requires you to seize control of Tyrant’s Star, the ultimate fortress. In this final challenge, you’ll come face-to-face with Louis at the height of his power-madness.
As a devoted fan, I can’t hide my excitement! This isn’t about unraveling secrets; it’s about seizing the last chance to gear up, complete any lingering quests, battle hidden adversaries, acquire the top-tier weapons in the fantastical world of ReFantazio, and face off against the ultimate villain!
In a classic JRPG finale, you’ll encounter numerous shocking disclosures, thrilling cinematic sequences, poignant emotional moments, and possibly protective plot devices to maintain the gaming dynamics.
In essence, the outcome of this operation significantly influences how the game ends, so your overall enjoyment or perception of it largely hinges on how you feel about its finale.
Having played many JRPGs before, I had a general idea of what to anticipate and found the ending pleasing. Yet, I can see why others might find it less satisfying. The conclusion provides a joyful resolution for our protagonist, which could seem unrealistic given the heavy themes of loss, prejudice, and struggle that were prevalent throughout the game.
3. Skybound Avatar Conquest
The Power of Democracy
With allies backing you and no obstacles left in his path, Louis discards any deception and marches towards the royal palace to carry out his scheme. Of course, being the central character of the Skybound Avatar Conquest mission, it falls upon you to thwart him.
The world seems to be spiraling out of control, with a blood-red sunset casting an ominous hue. It’s fascinating to observe how non-player characters respond to these turbulent times, despite the fact that some continue to harbor resentment towards you.
Yet, what truly sets apart this Operation is its central figure, the Skybound Avatar. While it shares functionality with other dungeons within Metaphor: ReFantazio, its captivating storylines give it a distinct identity.
At certain instances, you may come across stairways obstructed by the collective fear of the people, and it’s disclosed that the Royal Scepter thrives on this fear. As you dismantle devices drawing populace fear, you will notice some of your allies encouraging the people to back the protagonist.
As anxiety lessens, avenues emerge, signifying that people are escaping Louis’s influence and joining forces with the main character.
2. Prepare for the Final Battle
Not Exactly Final
After vanquishing the menace on Virga Island, the game whisked me off to Altabury Heights, serving up one shocking revelation after another – some leaving me utterly stunned, while others had me questioning the plot, yet each twist kept me hooked and eager for more.
During this phase, there are no upcoming operations since we’re nearing the end of our mission to Free the Prince from the Clutches of the Cursed Death.
After Rella’s selfless act and her exposing the truth about the church, the scene is now ripe for a head-on clash between the main character and Louis, leading up to the Prepare for the Ultimate Showdown mission.
In this scenario, your objective is to enhance your relationships, equipment, progression points, and character types. Louis is known as one of the toughest adversaries in the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio“, and battling him can be challenging for players who haven’t explored the game’s additional content.
The climax of the Operation unfolds post-battle. Using his persuasive eloquence and dramatic flair, Louis manages to turn most of the world against our hero, temporarily making him a mortal. With no other choice, the group escapes, heading towards the Ancient Eldan Sanctum to regroup.
1. Save the Prince from Death’s Curse
The Game’s Main Objective
In the intriguing RPG named “Metaphor: ReFantazio”, your primary objective is to liberate a doomed prince who bears a deadly curse. This objective is evident right from the start, and it serves as our guiding light as we embark on various main quests, welcome new party members into our ranks, and delve into numerous dungeons along the way.
In an effort to keep crucial details hidden, I shan’t discuss the specific events of this operation. Yet, let me tell you that this mission is remarkable in many ways. It serves as the foundation for the protagonist’s actions, inspires other characters to rally together, and offers a definitive purpose to all our adventures.
In contrast to numerous Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs), the villain, reasons, goals, and storyline in this case don’t stay fixed; they evolve as the adventure unfolds.
In a more conversational manner, you could say: “ReFantazio starts with a clear narrative from the get-go and consistently develops it, escalating the tension, expanding its universe, and drawing players deeper into the story as they progress.
